We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joshua McCall a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Joshua, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I believe everything happens for a reason, divine timing. However, if I could’ve chose I wouldve went back and told my younger self forsure to pursue the creative direction.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a multidisciplinary artist, and community organizer born in LA, raised in Long Beach, California. Film, design and music are passions of mine whereas as community building is my purpose. A few years ago I started a community based retail company BRIQ. better known as Being Real is Quality. in the city of Long Beach where 25% of the brands monthly income would serve as funding for all future community endeavors, youth workshops or projects. Sole mission of the brand is bridging communities through creative influence.
We sell a variety of products from cut and sewn fashion goods to home and kitchen goods .To support the promotion, and build of the brand through marketing we also have our media outlets for all things BRIQ.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I am going to to build a creative studio/ storefront to house all of our BRIQ. Community events, and workshops for our youth, as well utilize the space to film our creative content.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Inspiring others. To be able to create something that moves someone else so much it makes them want to purchase it, consume or mirror your footsteps is truly what keeps me going and inspired.
