We recently connected with Joshua Marchand and have shared our conversation below.
Joshua, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Being successful in the tattoo industry requires a combination of artistic talent, technical skill, professionalism, and business smarts. After 23 years in the industry I’m still learning everyday. It’s a never ending battle with self. Developing a unique and recognizable style, honing one’s techniques, maintaining high hygiene standards, and building a strong portfolio are crucial. Building a loyal client base through positive word-of-mouth and online presence is important. In today’s world social media is absolutely a crucial tool we artist’s use for exposure. Additionally, understanding and complying with local regulations, continuous learning-both technical and medical, and adapting to trends can contribute to long term success. With all that said, I’m thankful for all my clients, many whom have become like family to me. God willing , i will have many more years left to create beautiful stories on peoples skin.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Above all else I am a father, a husband, and a patriot. As an added bonus, i get to do what i love for a living which is create tattoo art. I just hit my 23 year mark in June, and how time has flown by. I specialize in both color and black and grey realism tattooing. I especially enjoy creating renditions of wildlife, and all the beauty it offers. As an artist I’m constantly in awe of Gods creations . I also enjoy doing portraits and floral works. Over the years i have worked very hard at building relationships with my clients to the point lots of them are like family to me. It’s important to create something great for them that they can carry and be proud of for the remainder of their life!
How did you build your audience on social media?
In today’s world social media is pivotal in building clientele and a fan base for future potential clients. My advise to anyone just starting off in social media is create, create, create! Create stories daily related to your product or service, create reels, create posts and offers. In my case for example, every tattoo i create is followed by a reel showcasing the new tattoo. Adding trending music and a description while tagging my client helps get better reach. Hashtags are important, subject matter , locations , similar niches all play a vital role in one single post or reel. Stay on top it and it will pay off.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
For me the most effective strategy for growing your clientele is above and beyond quality and a strong social media presence. Showcasing your work, engaging with your audience, and offering promotions is effective . It’s also important to maintain a professional and welcoming studio environment. Don’t be afraid of encouraging word-of-mouth referrals.
