We recently connected with Joshua Law and have shared our conversation below.
Joshua, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
In 2021, I was training for a 100-kilometer desert trail race. As I was training, I went through a lot of different socks. I was frustrated with all of the socks’ durability, so I started to look up different brands. I found a brand called Boldfoot Socks. They are a 100% American-made sock made from American materials, which intrigued me. I bought a pair and liked them, so I bought two more pairs. I used these socks in my 100K, and they performed well. I decided to reach out to the company to tell them how much I enjoyed their socks during my race and my training. The owner responded back to my email with kind words about my race and for trying their socks. In the same email, he asked if I would like to buy the entire company. To say the least, I was a little shocked. After several conversations with my family, and after convincing them it wasn’t a joke, we decided to buy Boldfoot socks. The risk came from the fact that none of us have any business experience or any experience in the clothing industry. We have owned Boldfoot for over a year now and continue to make good and bad decisions in attempts to grow our business. Through it all, we will never regret buying Boldfoot. It is owned 100% by our family and has become a part of our family.

Boldfoot Socks is a family- and veteran-owned sock company. Our socks are made of 100% American materials. We donate 5% of all proceeds to veteran charities. We offer dress, athletic, and compression socks. Our family got involved in this business due to our passion for running, endurance sports, and American-made products. We are proud that our socks are 100% American and that we can contribute to the progress of the American worker.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The quality of our socks and customer service. Our socks are amazingly durable. There have been times when a customer was unsatisfied, but we pride ourselves on responding quickly and to the satisfaction of any unhappy customers. A comment we receive frequently is how fast we respond to complaints. As soon as one comes in, we respond, but never with a formal response. Every email is written to the person directly. I believe this is important, and this will be our practice forever.

How did you build your audience on social media?
We do not have a large social media audience, but we have built it up over the last year. Our strategy is to seize ourselves. Most of our posts are of us, the owners, doing things in the socks. We like to show that we aren’t just selling a product; we are selling something we believe in.
