Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joshua Glass. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Joshua, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
Ultimately, as an artist, I’m very happy. I’ve learned in the last few years that my happiness as an artist should not be centered around how much I create. I have learned to be content in the mere fact that I am still a creative whether or not I’m always putting out material. Through my experiences, I have come to the realization that every part of life can be used in my art. Even the moments that may not feel so good.
Recently, I have found a career in Education. After a full day of work I’m grateful that I have an outlet in art to release how I may be feeling. I could not imagine a world where I didn’t have the ability to create outside of my 9-5. Sometimes working a “ regular job “ makes you feel as though you’ve given up on your dreams as a creative. This season in my life has taught me to enjoy every part of the process.
Joshua, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Joshua Glass is a full time Creative. He is a Choreographer, Stylist, Designer, Creative Director, Dancer, Actor, Singer, and Writer. At a young age Joshua became very diverse in the arts. Using his love for performing arts to inspire his vision, Joshua has gained a unique eye for creative directing.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding part of being a creative is seeing the impact you make on your audience. Most times ,as a creative, you produce so much that you forget how something you released or designed brightened someone’s day. I know how much art has changed seasons of my life. When I think of the many people who were inspired by seeing my work, I feel a huge sense of pride . I am humbled. I am grateful to say the least.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Something I believe non-creatives will struggle to understand is that for most artist, if we aren’t creating…we aren’t living. Especially, if creating is your passion and you are called to do it. As hard as it is to balance life, working, and being an artist, I would rather juggle it all then to see the day where I never created again. Creating is my life. To the point, I physically feel sick in my body if I’m not creating. Sometimes, a break is necessary but eventually I have to get back to what feeds my soul. They say if you are doing what you truly love then it will never feel like work.
