We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Joshua Germain. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Joshua below.
Joshua, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
Yes i do wish I started my journey a lot earlier. Solely because i grew up a student-athlete. Completely into school and basketball. But ever since I’ve been introduced into this lane, I love it and can’t imagine me doing anything else. So if I ever was introduced to this earlier I probably would’ve stopped playing basketball earlier.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Joshua Willy Germain. I’m Haitian-Bahmian American. I grew up in broward county. I have 9 brothers and 3 sisters. I played basketball my whole life. From HS to all 4 years of college. I never wanted to act but in all honesty it found me. The seed was first planted when I took A Film-making class my junior year of college. Our final project was to shoot a short film so we did a whole casting and the day of our shoot i was on the sound boom. The actor didn’t come so i volunteered to do the lines, I thought nothing of it. But i left an impression on my peers. Next class my professor told me what my peers said and offered me to come to the Theatre because she was head of the drama department. Fast forward to 2020 During quarantine I reached backed out to my professor and picked her brain about acting and how realistic it would be for someone to start now. From that first convo she believe in me and saw stardom. We started to meet weekly for about 2 months via zoom. And played a role of a mentor. During that time I was on fences whether to pursue what i went to school for by pursing broadcasting or journalism. Or Pro Basketball it was it Acting. During that time I was going through a lot I remember praying to God daily for him to show me signs I can’t deny on where to shift my focus to. From then on out I started hearing i should act in the weirdest places. To keep up with my workouts for basketball i was working Security/Doorman at high end venues in Miami. MILA at the time and I had a Co-worker randomly ask me if i would ever act. A guest once told me she don’t believe that I play ball that she sees me on TV acting. Then Margot Robbie came to eat then Cuba Gooding Jr came twice. I had conversation with him. Then I had Jason Canela starting to workout at my gym everyday, and I pick his brain. So i thought to myself all of a sudden acting keeps coming up in convos and in my everyday spaces. Then the final ball that dropped was when I switched venues and met another actor who was on the security team and he happens to be shooting his own project and offered me a role, at the time i just was eager to get the experience so I said yes. Then on set I brought so much life to the character and left an impression with everyone on set. From there I made the decision to be at peace with the pursuit of basketball and chase my calling. Now I’m a full-time actor!

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal and mission in anything that I do will always be to make my family proud and prove those who believe in me right . But goals in the aspect of acting. Would be to play a role that leaves a memorable impact on the world.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In the beginning of my journey, i made a choice to 100% commit to this lane and go to acting school full time. But then I had serious car problems which was milking all of my funds. I’m a firm believer in God will test you before he blesses you. So I made a decision I wouldn’t allow that temporary situation to hinder my progress/plans. I started teaching myself the craft and business of acting through different videos on YouTube and taking notes on the videos and studying them. And kept at it till I was situated enough to be in physical school.
