Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joshua Dillard. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Joshua, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Ever since I was 12 years old I was walking around my home recording the family for Thanksgiving dinner. I didn’t know that this passion would develop into a love of film. My ultimate goal is to build my own film studio. Shrewd Studios is the beginning of that. I’ve met many creators and business owners who need content now more than ever. The problem is, that they’re not filmmakers or content creators. The other problem is they don’t have the time to create enticing content that makes sense for their business. This is where Shrewd Studios comes in. It closes the gap between production and execution for businesses and content creators. Right now content is king and we’re helping entrepreneurs and creators alike become king/queens in their own right using media.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I like many entrepreneurs have started a plethora of ventures that failed. I remember one time I built out an entire product purely out of passion thinking that it would be so great, people wouldn’t be able to deny it. Once I launched the product, guess what? No sales. That’s when I knew, that building it alone will not get you customers. After bumping my head a few times, we started to build MVPs and sell those first to see if there is a market for what we were building. It saved us a tone of time and money.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I think one piece of conventional advice that I disagree with is “If you believe it you can achieve it”. I believe that statement needs a lot more context because it sounds so simple. But is belief truly that simple? If I merely “think” it can I achieve it? I don’t think so. That’s not real life. Your thoughts have to manifest into action. Belief is a combination of two things: Imagination & Execution. Without imagination, you won’t be excited and energized enough to execute. Without execution, you will never manifest what you imagined. True belief is followed by action. If your belief doesn’t compel you to action then you have to question if you believe.
