We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Joshua Davis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Joshua below.
Joshua, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I am a mission driven company , I can say so because In the past I have done photo and video for fun because it’s just something I love to do. Throughout the years I have had family members and friends that tell me I am very talented and I work hard at what I do. I decided to take it up a notch and use my talents to bring me income, of course I am not where I want to be but I am far from where I use to be. Knowing that I have actually gotten far in my passion , my main mission now is to continue to learn more and more and become better for myself . Yes being a photographer / videographer is hard because you have to stand out more than other photographers because the market is growing and more people are wanting to become photographers. You have to constantly think and use your creativity when it comes to these things because there is always going to be a photographer or videographer that knows more than you . Knowing that it’s a growing market , I strive to keep learning so that I can become successful. Becoming a successful photographer/videographer is a very meaningful mission to me because I know how many people out there that have doubted me , I have been turned down multiple times before but the doubters motivate me to keep moving and to never give up no matter what, I definitely want to prove to myself that I am a strong individual that will never give up no matter how tough times may get. I also have those who support me and who have been supporting me from the beginning and I’m extremely thankful for those people. Overall this mission is very meaningful to me and I’m going to keep pushing until I get where I want to be .
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Joshua Davis and I am a freelance photographer/videographer. What made me get into photography and videography might you ask ? Well, in middle school I was very much into technology. I started making videos on my windows computer at the age of thirteen years old. I made YouTube videos and I also made videos for projects in school as well. I honestly don’t even remember anyone teaching me how to edit videos , I would just get on the computer and play around in the windows movie maker until I was satisfied with the final result . When I got to high-school I took up multiple photo and video classes. I took those classes for fun just because they were extra elective classes that would help me graduate, but later down the years I actually used some things that I was taught in school in the real world. After I graduated high school I went to college but I’m not afraid to say that I really didn’t take college serous , I had no interest really. I changed my major multiple times because I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with my career. During college I watched YouTube 24/7 and I watched alot of YouTubers from when they first started until they became famous . I watched people like prettyboy fredo, Pontiacmade DDG , Cjsocool, lennar and many others . Of course I told myself I could be a YouTuber ,I know how to edit videos and record that’s easy! So that’s what I did I bought my first Nikon and camera hopped on YouTube making skits , doing challenges, pranks , story times and more. I was doing very well for myself honestly but one day leaving the airport after a cruise I realized I had left my camera in the airport. I instantly panicked as I was up 35,000 feet in the air . We landed and called the airport right away to see if they could locate my camera and unfortunately I didn’t have any luck . Sadly I gave up on my dreams of being a YouTuber after that because I didn’t want to buy anymore gear . But thankfully having the best mother in the world she saw something in me and surprised me with a new camera for Christmas one year and I haven’t looked back since . I stared to take more photos and started to network more and started landing my first clients . It felt really good to make money from what I loved to do so I decided to take it up a notch and make a name for myself , I met some really cool people that asked me to come out and shoot photos for aau tournaments and eventually I didn’t want to just take pictures I stared to do video and I really just got better from there . Learning from others that had more knowledge than me also helped out a lot through my journey. Now today I have been published in a magazine, met a lot of different artist, creators, business people. I work at a photography studio with wonderful people , I just started back in school at full sail university taking up digital cinematography. I am really engaged in my craft and I love to create with other people, I hope to one day have my own studio and or work with big movie companies in the future .
