We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joshua Crump a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Joshua, appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
J Crump Productions officially started in 2021. However, I started taking pictures back in 2018 while I was a senior at Georgia Southern University. At the time, I just wanted to be a photographer, and I didn’t have the vision for what my company is now. Career-wise, I was starting out. I had a small amount of experience but nothing serious. Looking back, I wish I had put more time into it while I was still in college, and not waited until the pandemic to take it seriously. I am a believer that everything happens for a reason, and J Crump Productions would not be where it is now without those ups and downs between 2018-2021.

Joshua, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was born in New York. I moved to Marietta, Georgia, and attended middle and high school in Powder Springs. I graduated from Georgia Southern University in 2018, and that’s how I got into the photography industry. My first time taking pictures was when I used a camera to capture a game night in my neighborhood, and I fell in love with capturing the moment. What sets me apart from others is my ability to tell stories. I have a degree in Journalism and pride myself on telling real stories through my visuals. What I want people to know about my work is that you can always expect quality and professionalism, as well as count on us to always go the extra mile. I’m most proud of the diverse clientele I’ve reached, in addition to the new projects I’m working on that will take J Crump Productions to the next level.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Businesses. In 2023, I changed who I marketed my services to. Ever since I switched from individuals (artists, quick birthday shoots, etc) to businesses (restaurants, law firms, non-profit organizations), it’s been extremely beneficial. I found that businesses see the value in my work. They are clearer on exactly what they need and value their time more than yours, which makes shoots go smoother because we are both more efficient and time-effective. I also enjoy creating visuals for businesses and organizations that will be used for their branding and marketing.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
One of the most important things that helped me build my reputation today is the level of professionalism I bring to every project. From the simplest photoshoot to the most complex film production, J Crump Productions shows up on time and ready to handle every job. I go the extra mile for every client. It’s rare to get reliable and quality services from a business owner that’s my age in Metro Atlanta. I noticed a void and listened to complaints from people about other people in the photography industry and I ensure that I do everything in my ability to surpass client expectations.
