We were lucky to catch up with Joshua Black recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Joshua thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Learning the craft of acting is an ongoing pursuit! I started this journey taking classes at Acting Up LLC learning critical skills such as confidence building, improvisation, scene study and character development. I studied the work of other actors and learned from their techniques as well as taking an intro to the Chubbuck Technique with Jonna Johnson.
The only thing that could’ve been done to speed up my learning process is start sooner lol. Since this is an ongoing process there aren’t many obstacles besides financial blocks that prevent you from taking classes. However with creative arts, the world is your classroom so you can always learn something new!
Improv is one of the most essential skills to learn in this field because it’s the ability to think and react on your feet. With this skill you can develop a character on the spot and adapt to whatever’s presented.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was born in Independence, MO but grew up in Georgia. At an early age I became fascinated with the work of Ross Lynch and felt this was the career path I wanted to take. I love being able to express myself as different characters. I also have a passion for playing piano and keyboard. I’m a self taught musican who believes anything is possible if you work at it. I want my work to inspire others to follow their dreams. My first influence was on my younger brother, Caleb Black who decided to pursue acting after following my career. He’s a very creative talent and I’m extremely proud of him!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative artist is being able to do what you love for a living. So many people go to a job daily that they hate or don’t want to be at in order to make a living for themselves. As a creative I get to do what brings me joy to make a living. It doesn’t feel like work when you’re doing what you love!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The ultimate goal is to be the best actor in the industry. You have to have short term goals and long term goals to get you to the prize. Although it’s no easy task, I know it’s obtainable. So everything I do from taking courses to working on film or TV projects big or small is another step towards that goal. I’ve accomplished the goal to be on Network TV and now I’m working towards being in a Studio Feature Film, Award winning performances are also on my list to conquer.
