We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Josh Whiteley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Josh, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
While there have and continue to be many defining moments in my career, one that sticks out to me especially was the moment I realized I was ACTUALLY doing this. As in, I was paying my bills doing something I was passionate about and had fewer moments of wondering if this would pan out or if I would need to find a different career path. As a small business owner particularly in niche areas that require a lot of education for the average consumer to understand or appreciate, building a business from the ground up takes a lot of patience and perseverance. Taking the financial risk of committing to something that there’s no guarantee will work or that people will embrace, riding the financial waves of trying to build something sustainable, and navigating a difficult economy was one of the proudest moments I have felt at that moment I realized it was actually working! There is wisdom in facing your fears without turning over your power by rejecting those fears. By approaching fear with the attitude of acceptance that in the moment you may still be afraid or even terrified, but you’ve made the conscious choice to proceed forward anyway that lessens it’s power over you to create a life that brings you deep fulfillment

Josh, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I help people to find their true purpose utilizing an array of tools primarily Vedic astrology and acupuncture. I also am a Registered Nurse in an Emergency room setting. I have been a life long student of the Vedic and healing arts and have a deep connection to helping people navigate the trials and tribulations as well as the victories of life. Vedic astrology provides a lens in which one can better understand their life purpose (Dharma) as well as more day to day issues such as financial, health, and relationship prospects which also lend to a more fulfilling life. I have studied the art of Ayurveda and Chinese medicine to further provide tools for clients to utilize in building healthy diet and lifestyle routines as well as using herbal medicine medicinally for when health concerns arise. Vedic astrology can also provide insight and remedies for these topics as well and many clients come to see me for a nuanced take on their health concerns as I have my foot both in the world of Eastern and Western medicine and find both of these medical systems to provide critical knowledge that when combined offers the best of tapestry of tools for conscious health decisions.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I feel that even in the esoteric world of Vedic astrology, having a grounded understanding of astronomy and Western science also allows you to view astrological findings in a grounded way. Combining both practicality and intuition is an important gift to nurture.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One big lesson I had to unlearn was that life is a straight path and one-way only! I have many varied interests and also recognized a lot of pressure I have placed on myself to do things the ”right” way. Whether it was making a decision to study a new subject or deepen my studies in one I already had knowledge in, or overthinking the worst case scenario consequences about choosing a particular path. Life is a series of decisions and we make the best decisions we can with the information we have at the moment we make them. One of the great things about modern life especially is the ability to pivot. When something is no longer serving us, we make a move at that given time to make that decision. Remember how when you were a child and you thought adults had life all figured out? The greatest cosmic joke ever written!
