We recently connected with Josh Sales and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Josh thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about how you got your first non-friend, non-family client. Paint the picture for us so we can feel the same excitement you felt on that day.
The first client I ever got was in 2017. I had dabbled with videos here and there but knew that I wanted to focus especially on music videos. I reached out to a facebook group called “singers and songwriters of utah” asking anyone if they wanted a free music video! I had a bunch of people interested in working with me and ended up choosing a husband-wife duo named Scott and Ryceejo! They are extremely talented and I’m grateful they let me be apart of such an awesome project. Even though half the video was out of focus and a lot of the shots were shaky, I had an absolute blast. Little did we know that shortly after the video launched it would end up going viral. “How far I’ll go the distance” mashup now has 7.1 Million views on YouTube!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Josh Sales and I am a freelance videographer. I have filmed close to 1,000 music videos and have had hundreds of millions of views from my work. I started out making videos when I was younger with my friends and family. My dad (who is an audio engineer at BYU and runs his own production company) gave us kids what he called a “creation station”. This was comprised of a computer, camera, microphones and all the editing software we would need to be involved in the creative arts. It became an interest of mine ever since I was a little kid and am grateful that I can now make a living doing one of my absolute favorite things.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Working alongside such amazing and talented people! I love who I work with and the inspiration and hope they spread to the world.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I’d like to make anything that will help inspire people to become better and find their purpose.
