We recently connected with Josh Mitchell and have shared our conversation below.
Josh, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Two years ago April, I took one of the biggest risks of my life. In fact, it was a period where I made several significant decisions right after each other. Moments I’ll never forget – all driven by a search for something deeper than what I was experiencing at the time. But the straw that broke the camel’s back? The passing of my Antie. In March 2021, I received the news that she was no longer with us and my world shattered. As days went by and the pain set in deeper, all I could think about was how precious life and time really is.
This is why I took the first risk. Why I quit my corporate job, where I was earning over $100k annually, after 5 years to pursue my passion for cooking. Time became more valuable to me than money. All I wanted was to spend my time doing the things that I love. I wanted to fulfill my true life purpose. I didn’t really have a plan, but in my spirit I just couldn’t waste anymore time.
Next, I decided to leave my apartment in Houston, after being there not even a month, and move back to Dallas so I could be closer to family. I didn’t pack anything. I grabbed important documents and left it all. I needed a true fresh start and that required me to leave behind all of my material possessions. Was I worried that I’d have nothing? No, because I knew in my heart that I’d eventually regain everything that was lost in my pursuit of peace and happiness.
What happened next, I should’ve seen coming. Months of pain, sorrow, depression, anxiety, and health issues. 14 months to be exact. My days were very dark for a long time, but it didn’t last. After a restorative family trip to Jamaica in March 2022, life started to take on a new meaning. I was finally able to begin releasing my pain in a healthy manner.
Fast forward to today, March 2023, I’ve been able to secure celebrity clientele, provide meals to more than half of the DFW area, and maintain a career as a Private Chef. This is only the beginning though. I plan to achieve so much more from starring in my own cooking show, to creating recipe books, seasonings, and cookware.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a traveling Private Chef who primarily services the DFW area. Not only do I offer uniquely curated private dining experiences, I also provide services for catering, meal prep, and individual platters.
My main style of cuisine is Cajun comfort food with a twist, but I can pretty much create anything I see in my mind’s eye. I also love to experiment in the kitchen. With each meal I prepare, I play with different flavors and ingredients to create dining experiences like no other. Every single thing that I do is original and full of love. This is what sets me apart from other chefs in city.
To put it simply, I wouldn’t serve it if I wouldn’t eat the leftovers for breakfast.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I keep in touch with my clients mainly through text and social media.
I foster brand loyalty through continuous promotions. New clients get 15% off their service, all other clients get 10% off per booking referral that’s made. In addition to these, all of my clients get exclusive access to surprise promotions that range from 5-50% off.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I’m a firm believer of organic growth and followership. With this in mind, I built my audience on social media through consistent posting and strategic marketing.
Since I was starting from scratch, my main objective was to get my culinary work in front of different eyes because I knew the product would sell itself. So, I added friends and followed all types of people across social platforms. Then, through instagram and facebook’s promotion feature, I launched several ad campaigns.
Every post isn’t going to go viral, but as long as you’re consistent, your growth will be consistent.
