We recently connected with Josh Madonick and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Josh thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
It’s no secret that healthcare in America is broken. The country is sicker than it’s ever been, with people becoming more obese, more diseased, and more disabled year after year. America is doing its best to help its population, but has largely focused on reactive care. Medications, treatments, and other sources of care are guided at the masses who are already unhealthy. As a result, those who are trying to avoid this fate are given almost no resources at all. Rather than working to make sure these individuals live a long, healthful life, they’re told that they are “healthy”, “normal”, and don’t need to worry.
This is where BaseCamp comes in. We teach individuals how to stay at peak health and performance, so that they can continue to do the things they love for a lifetime.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My own individual path to becoming a doctor of physical therapy started through my experience as an athlete looking to improve my own performance on the field. This led me to the field of strength & conditioning, where I was introduced to the myriad benefits of exercise – for everyone. My professors routinely talked about exercise as the “miracle drug” that America needed, but refused to take. I saw the field of physical therapy as a way for me to help people overcome injuries, but also to be able to teach them just how much agency they had over their own health.
Unfortunately, that vision was crushed upon my entering the field. I soon came to find out that the only thing insurance companies cared about was pain. Once a patient was beginning to feel better, we were instructed to discharge them. This was a crucial moment in the patient’s care, as they were just getting to the point that the real work – the work of becoming healthy and resilient – could begin. As a result, many of my patients wound up coming back to my office, needing help with the same problem, or one that could have been prevented with a more robust care plan.
This realization left me disheartened and questioning my path. I knew the impact that long-term focused care could have on my patients’ lives, but didn’t have a way to provide it for them. I was at a crossroads: continue being a pawn in this system, or step up and be the change.
With this in mind, I started my own business – BaseCamp. The name was intentional, as I aimed to provide a facility that would help people realize peak health and performance for themselves. This business would not only help individuals get out of pain or recover from injury, but provide them with the tools to create life-changing health gains.
Now, our team helps individuals tackle greater challenges than they ever dreamed of. What typically starts as an injury and setback (knee pain, back pain, or others) typically ends in someone running their first marathon, joining a new sport, or setting personal records in a sport they already participate in.
This was my goal all along – to teach people that physical therapy isn’t just for those who are injured, but rather, an opportunity for anyone to feel and move better than ever before.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Simply put, people want better healthcare. Nearly everyone has had a frustrating healthcare experience which left them feeling unheard. And it’s the rare few who have had a truly amazing healthcare experience.
That’s where we aimed to be different. Our goal was to make every part of the experience in working with us stand out. To do so, we take a customer-service oriented approach to healthcare. We listen to all of our patients, treat them as individuals, and do the small-things that matter so much. We aim to over-deliver in every step of their care with us, whether it’s their provider knowing everything about them before they even come into the office, or sending them a hand-written birthday card each year.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
As a physical therapy practice, it can be challenging to create a community – largely due to the regulations of HIPAA. But we’ve been able to navigate through that by building a culture in which we share wins. Each month, we highlight patients on our Wins of The Month board who have made great progress or done something amazing. It serves as a way to highlight that individual’s hard work, but also as encouragement to someone who’s just starting their care with us. We also share these stories through our social media accounts and in our newsletter to our patients – we want people to be celebrated for being committed to their health.
