Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Josh Lewis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Josh thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve had to work on is the Name/Birthstone Bracelet collection.
This started after our first daughter, Noelle Marie was stillborn. As creatives we like to take our grief of something or our love for something and transform it into art.
I wanted to honor my daughter and provide something tangible for my wife to have that reminds her of our rambunctious, one of a kind little girl.
I made this bracelet with her first initial and her birth stone, sapphire, and filled the bracelet with these light tan beads for a soft touch.
My wife was in tears when I presented it to her, and from there I made more for my family and the bracelet style became a part of our online shop where anyone can design their own for a friend, significant other, or family member.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Josh Lewis, founder of Wooden Creative Co: a Christian-based jewelry business that sets out to enable people to express themselves through what they wear and show them how God sees them: beautifully and wonderfully made.
How I got to where I am now actually started when I was 12 years old when I received my first set of materials to make jewelry after my family saw me making cross necklaces out of pipe cleaner tubes. Now I’ve focused the creative desire and craft into this business to be of benefit to others.
I feel every aspect of my life has been peculiar, as I seem to take a lot of unpredictable paths as an African American man. That being said, one of my ‘standout’ traits is being a man making jewelry. It’s not too common, and especially in the local areas (Columbus, GA and now Clarksville, TN) I don’t think I’ve met any other male handmade jeweller.
One thing I think I’m most proud of is the position I’ve been placed into. The Lord called me to start this business back in December 2020. And His purpose for where I am has been slowly unfolding itself to me. I’m pleased to be here, to share my story, and reach people through jewelry.
I want everyone to know how great God is. The designs that I craft together do not measure up to the creative and powerful work of God. He is the reason I’m here and everything that I do, I do so for Him.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice
NFTs succeed in challenging what we think CAN be. I think it’s a very bizarre and poor execution that’s only backed by people who want it to work. But I don’t really see it having a viable future.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn to stop focusing on the money when it comes to working on a creative passion. Money-first mindsets are for the 9-5 jobs. Impact-first mindsets are for those creating and developing something new and creative.
