We were lucky to catch up with Josh Hinkin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Josh thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
For me, the defining moment in my path was when I decided to drop out of school to pursue a career in energy work. I’ve been called to the healing arts my whole life and had for a time put it on the sidelines. I first pursued a career in cosmetology because of the way I was able to help others feel their best inwardly and outwardly, I was aware of the way energy was present even there to make a client feel safe and confident. But through my schooling I found that it was not my true calling, the day I decided to drop out it was as if everything I had been looking for was suddenly in my lap! I had an opportunity to pursue my certifications and training and that led me to where I am now! Giving myself grace to try multiple options without forcing them to fit was one of the best things I could have done.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Throughout my entire life I have always been called to the path of healing and spirit work, whether it was seeing energies as a child or learning little tricks to heal ailments from my mother in some sense I knew this is where I was supposed to be. I started with dipping into different forms of divination and practices, which I highly encourage anyone who’s interested in starting their path to do! Growing up in Appalachia magick was so present in my life whether I was fully aware of it or not, through prayer, the laying of hands, or coming together as a community to raise someone up. I was raised in a very religious setting, which I no longer partake in but am nonetheless thankful for! In terms of my practice I’m certified as a level iii Usui Reiki Master and a Sekhem-Seichim master teacher, I have six plus years of experience with divination, as well as being trained in Akashic Record readings! For my clients I offering energy work sessions, private and virtual readings, Akashic Record past life sessions, and a variety of other services by appointment! With my business I strive to be as accessible as possible, I believe in my core that everyone deserves to be able delve into their healing in a safe and loving space that doesn’t add stress financially!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I’ve found the most success in building a clientele through networking, between doing weekly readings at Hummingbird Apothecary and New Moon Rising, local markets and events, and bartending at an Apothecary I’ve had the pleasure of connecting with many magickal people who have become close friends and clients!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the most important lessons I’ve had to unlearn not only in my career but in my personal life, is that comparing myself to others practices and paths has no place in mine! If we are constantly trying to match someone else’s success or “level” we miss out on the stepping stones that lead us into our own beautiful abundance!
