We were lucky to catch up with Josh Grimm recently and have shared our conversation below.
Josh , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
In 2014, I was traveling with my then partner throughout Southeast Asia. In the third month or so, our relationship went into a completely opposite direction, and he left not only the relationship, but left south east Asia while I remained in Cambodia by choice. At this time I fell into a pretty dark depression, feeling isolated, confused, and questioned my next steps
After taking 30 days, staying at Le Meridian hotel in Siem Reap, Cambodia gathering my thoughts, I decided it was time for me to move forward with my experience that i was allowing to overtake me. That is when I decided to start volunteering at an orphanage that I found just outside of the town,
Through my experience with the children at this orphanage, I was able to find new purpose and drive of what I wanted to do for my next steps. by hearing the stories of how these underprivileged children got to be in the position that they are I realized that my selfish problems paled in comparison to everything that was going on around me. I knew then that I wanted to go back to New York City and create a business and a brand that had a giving back component where I can help others. To this day. I still contribute pieces of my earnings to various charities around Cambodia.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started the brand FITNUT in 2014 after returning from an extensive period of time in Southeast Asia. Toward the end of my 6-month stay, I experienced a painful breakup with my partner of two years and was feeling very isolated with moments of great sadness. I decided to volunteer with a children’s orphanage outside of Siem Reap, Cambodia with the hopes of becoming elevated enough to feel some lightness again. I was incredibly moved by my experience. My inspiration felt by the kids and workers at the orphanage motivated me to create a brand that not only helps people but has a giving-back component.
I was inspired to build a brand that focused on what matters most to me: FITNESS, NUTRITION, TRAVEL, and GIVING BACK.
Upon my return to NYC after that trip, I started working with the Cambodian Community Dream Association (CCDO) and was named an ambassador to their organization, in which I raised more money through fundraising events in NYC. Now, I take a percentage of annual sales and donate to a variety of organizations.
FITNUT today is a fusion brand of private personal training, nutrition coaching, group fitness, charity work, and luxury fitness retreats around the globe.
Currently, I am in the process of becoming certified as a life coach, in which I will practice helping others in the niche of building a fitness brand. In addition to that I am excited to have begun working with a new management company that is helping me to create an extensive online Network of subscribers to the FITNUT brand.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I have found that the most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been to stay completely authentic to my own purpose.
One has to remember that there are many others out there with similar, if not the same offerings of ones own business. one way to set yourself apart from others is through complete authenticity of your offerings, your business practices and your plan for their development.
One way that I achieve this is through complete transparency of who I am as a man, what I believe in, and as a business owner.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When I first started my business in 2014, I was trepidations in starting a new venture. I never owned my own business and my driving factors were to help other people feel better about themselves and to give back to the community, But, also it was to have financial success and to make money!
in the first year, I was able to achieve a six-figure income within the first nine months of starting my brand. I thought that this would continue in an upward trajectory with ease and flow but after the third year in business, realizing that I wasn’t making much financial momentum, I had to take a step back and analyze why i wasn’t much farther along than year one. I was just drifting on what everything I thought I knew… I was managing my business but I wasn’t managing ME. I didn’t take into account that in order to grow my brand, I had to grow as a person. I had to unlearn some character flaws that were blocking me from developing better as a business owner.
At this time is whenever I decided to take a deep dive in finding the best mindful practices that would create a clear head and insight of who I am so I can continually grow as a man. This, in turn, I knew would allow me to run parallel growth with my work.
My daily practices of mindful meditation, and using the laws of attraction have been what’s allowed me to develop into the man I am today. And the difference in growth reflects as such.
