We recently connected with Josh Garcia and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Josh, thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Three essential attributes stand out to me for success: responsiveness, follow-through, and quality. Responsiveness demonstrates an attentive and engaged approach. Follow-through showcases respect for commitments and recognition of the value of time. We all have the same amount of hours in the day! However, at the top of this, lies quality. It’s about meeting expectations and exceeding them by producing exemplary and impactful work.
I can’t tell you how many of our clients tell us they’ve reached out to several other contractors and have had no reply. Those who do get a reply many times tell me that they scheduled a visit and the contractor didn’t show. Quite obviously, if the first two attributes fail, it is impossible to achieve any quality.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into paint and woodworking almost by accident. My background is in graphic arts and music and at the end of 2022 I found myself without a job, looking for a career change. I’ve always been a big DIYer and realized that I had a great combination of skills that I had developed over the years. When combined with my artistic eye for detail, any repair or remodel project I did at home had professional quality. I began working with a friend who has several years of experience in the paint industry.
We started with smaller projects, working for known acquaintances, but given the quality of our work, we were referred time after time and found ourselves working full-time and taking on multi-week projects within the first couple of months.
My company specializes in interior paint, though we do take on exterior projects as well. We also build decks and deck stairs. We also carry out small home repair and remodel projects.
What I’m mostly proud of is our attention to detail. We have a “no paint splatter” policy, and we even try to remove old paint splatter left behind by other painters.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met Roger in Nicaragua almost ten years ago. I grew up there as a missionary kid and as an adult worked there hosting and translating for mission teams. Roger was one of the bus drivers for a transportation company we used for various mission teams while they were visiting.
Roger and I developed a friendship and when I moved back to the USA he was the caretaker for my house in Nicaragua until I sold it.
In 2021 Roger moved to the USA and we started working together in 2022 when he moved to Charleston from the West Coast.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Referrals! When someone recommends your services or skills to others, they’re sharing a positive experience and vouching for your quality. This endorsement adds a layer of credibility that advertising can’t replicate. When I look at my client list I see a network of connections based on genuine satisfaction.
