Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Josh Fertel. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Josh, appreciate you joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I was diagnosed with a malignant Thymoma tumor in April of 2021. I was going to be housebound for 2 months after my surgery on 6/15/21. I didn’t want to waste the time and wanted to learn something new. Something on the healthcare field. Being too old to go to medical school, I wanted to learn about the business side of a medical practice. So I took a class on insurance billing. After my two months was up, I wanted to see what I could do with what I learned. So I formed a corporation, built a website and started networking. Three and a half years later, we have 6 US employees and 7 overseas. We service 30+ practices across 6 states.
Josh, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
What sets us apart from other outsourced billing companies, is that we look for ways to make our clients thrive. We’re not just clerks that push “submit” and send claims. We teach practices to be profitable and grow. That comes from 30+ years of business experience that other companies do not have.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
I have been doing structured networking for 8 years. Word of mouth is always the best way to grow. If you are a true networker, and want to see others succeed, you will do well. And Drs associate with Drs. If you do a great job with one, they will tell their friends.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I have found that since I started J3, that I have developed a voracious appetite to learn about business. I listen to podcasts, read books, watch lectures. I stopped listening to music in the car. I even turned off my Sirius radio
