We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Josh Breezzyy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Josh below.
Josh, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My most meaningful project I’ve worked on was my album “Third Dimension”. At that point in time so much was riding on me to make it work and make it happen. I was coming off a flop with “Tortured Artist” and I needed to do a 180 and find a different way. I was to commonly compared to Eminem and wanted to seperate myself from that image and persona I created and go somewhere different. I had to put myself in a completely different mindset to create this album, and I think I did that. I was creating every single day, new sounds, new producers, new effects, new stories and a new vision. It was so fun. I was working with other artists, bringing them in live, and networking and it just was really a moment where I was like this is it. This is what all those years struggling to find my sound was for. I was able to reach new highs and eventually win Artist of the Year for this album, and it’ll forever be my favorite piece of work and it signifies a time in my life I will cherish.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Josh Brewster, professionally known as “Josh Breezzyy” and I am the Current God’s Gift World Champion, the 2020 Artist of the Year, a graduate of the first class at the Nightmare Factory, The Kobe Bryant of Hardy Boyz Figure Collecting and most importantly a Husband and Father. I know, that’s a lot, but when you spend your whole life chasing your dreams, your bound to accomplish a few of them.
I got into the music business during high school when we created McKnight Records. Prior to that, I was writing songs, recording freestyles and learning how to mix and master in my grandmas house while she was out at bingo with her friends. From their I went to school to learn Audio Engineering and then in college I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Music Business.
I’ve toured the east coast, opened for several artists and released multiple full length projects from 2018-2023 including my latest Greatest Hits album “Breezy B-Sides”.
During the pandemic is when I ventured into Pro Wrestling and joined the Nightmare Factory. After a 12 week program there I began working the independent wrestling scene and worked for several promotions from North Carolina to Florida and everywhere in between. I’ve been featured in several main events, in several top promotions and am currently the God’s Gift World Champion for 300+ days after defeating Paul Lasher at CULT Inclusive Wrestling.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Throughout High School, almost all of my peers laughed at me and bullied me about wanting to play professional baseball, or be a rapper or be a Professional Wrestler, but I never let it stop me. There were times in my life where I thought it would be so much easier to just give up, or even just end it; but I couldn’t. I couldn’t sit there and accept giving up on something that meant so much to me and could mean so much to others if I just kept pushing. During the “Illuminati” mixtape era of my career, a fan reached out and said one of my songs really helped her get through a tough time. She sent me an email and said that she was really on the verge of breaking down and a song called “Higher” made her feel like she was not alone and that if anything, she knew that someone else was feeling this way too, and it’ll get better. When I got that email, I knew that I couldn’t just give up. I couldn’t let a bunch of people who to this day haven’t accomplished a fraction of what I have, take me down with them. So a few years ago I came up with the slogan “Hustle, Overcome, Survive”. Those three words are what really helped me achieve all of my success so far and it’s what keeps me going when I encounter new obstacles.
In High School I would attempt to sell CD’s for $1 in the hallways. They were admittedly bad in hindsight, but the few people that bought them back then, are the reason why years later I was able to sell tens of thousands CD’s. I knew that, putting in the work with music would eventually lead me somewhere, and it did just that. I believe that in our lives we live through several different experiences that will give us the tools for our final destination. In the wise words of Joseph Anthony Budden Jr. “If you’re not there for the ride, then don’t be there when I park” meaning, if you weren’t there when I was selling those CD’s I burned in my grandma’s spare room, then don’t be there when I’m main eventing an AEW Dynamite coming out to my own theme song.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Recently, the promoter for The Guardian’s Legacy asked us all “Why do you want to be famous?” and that question really stuck with me because I don’t think it’s ever been about “fame” for me. Sure, the money and notoriety that comes with that is great and would help immensely, but my main goal whether it’s with music or with wrestling has always been to make a difference in someone else’s life. If that means, giving people music to listen to when they’re going through something or it means hanging out with this little kid at my merch table before a show and giving them that experience, or most important to me, being a “Super Hero” to my daughter when she see’s me beat up the bad guy or she see’s me on TV performing. My goal, my mission is to be for tomorrow’s generation, what Eminem and The Hardy Boyz were to me. I want kids watching me to see me and know that anything is possible, you can shoot for stars and not have to worry about the sky stopping you. There are no straight lines in nature, so why worry about coloring inside of them?
