Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Josette Pordash. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Josette, thanks for joining us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
It wasn’t until I became my own boss, that I really started to make the most income in my career as a hairstylist. Every experience led me to where I am today. I think making the move to be independent is scary because of all the uncertainty and needing to unlearn a lot of being on the other end so to speak. When you become your own boss, it’s all about what you invest into yourself rather than someone else. I believe what you put in is what you get out of anything you do.

Josette, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello world! I’m Josette! I love everything about beauty and bringing inspiration and goals to life and making someone’s day! You can always count on me to be your hype girl and tell you that you’re gorgeous no matter what! The energy I serve with client sessions is always open and relaxed. I love that my clients feel a sense of relief and self confidence after being in my chair. It makes me feel so happy when I make someone else smile! Doing hair and makeup for special events is my passion along with cuts and colors to perfect any look. I enjoy bringing a whole look together with detail and I love the challenge of creating new trends. In this industry I think listening and being patient with people goes along way because many times people are battling something unseen and it pours out in the sessions. Our industry is vulnerable yet healing and that’s why I love it so much!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I always aim for high goals and endless growth. I love to inspire others to go for their creative dream and invest in yourself. Don’t make up excuses or limit yourself with doubt. It takes up too much space in your mind of greatness. Never compare yourself, but learn from the experience. Every connection is a milestone in your own creative journey!
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
A lot of times as an artist I feel judged from people in the corporate world such as doctors or lawyers sometimes maybe teachers. Often times I feel judgment on creative individuals as if they didn’t make it in confined school so they went an easier route. I don’t think that is the case at all. From my experience , I went to school for several different things before I ultimately decided to be a hairstylist. Nothing that I went to school for before gave me the same excitement and challenges that being a hairstylist did for me. When I originally went to school to be a cosmetologist, I didn’t know that I would become an entrepreneur. I later realized that I didn’t really do the greatest under authority at normal jobs , but when I became my own boss, things started going exactly how I always dreamed. Not only am I capable of making as much money as a doctor, but I can also have the flexibility to have off on the holidays and enjoy my time with my family whenever I want and to me following my path and becoming a licensed cosmetologist was the best decision of my life.
