We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Josephine-Oghenekevbe Ogufere. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Josephine-Oghenekevbe below.
Hi Josephine-Oghenekevbe, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
This mission means a lot to me because it comes from my own experiences growing up in an African community where stories, culture, and faith were important. I’ve seen how powerful it is for people to connect with content that reflects their own life and background. It’s about helping people grow by giving them stories and knowledge that speak to them. I believe that when you see yourself in what you learn, it can make a big difference, and I want to share that with others.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Josephine Oghenekevbe Ogufere, known to many as Coach Kevbe — an author, book coach, ghostwriter, and the founder of Kevbes Book Haven and the African Writers Tribe. My journey began from a place of brokenness — I walked away from a teaching job that left me feeling unseen and undervalued. Out of that pain, I found purpose in storytelling, publishing, and helping others do the same.
Through Kevbes Book Haven, I’ve helped hundreds of writers — especially children, women, and new authors — birth their books, find healing through words, and turn their stories into platforms for influence and income. Our services range from ghostwriting and book coaching to full-scale self-publishing, story development, and literary brand building. We create books, courses, journals, creative campaigns, and experiences rooted in African values, spiritual depth, and global excellence.
But one of the most impactful parts of my work is the African Writers Tribe — a growing movement of writers across Africa and the diaspora. We’re building a strong community where African writers feel seen, supported, and equipped. From monthly writing challenges to literary hangouts, healing workshops, and publishing support, we are rewriting the narrative of what it means to be a thriving African writer in today’s world. We’re helping people turn pain into purpose, stories into solutions, and creativity into legacy.
What sets me apart is my faith-filled, African-centered, heart-first approach. I make writing and publishing simple, spirit-led, and powerful — especially for those who feel like they don’t fit into traditional systems.
I’m most proud of the lives we’ve transformed — from kids who become published authors, to adults who finally found their voice after years of silence. I want everyone who comes across my work to know: your voice matters, your story is valid, and this is your time.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Absolutely. One of the most defining moments in my journey was the day I walked away from my teaching job. I had given 19 years of my life to education—building schools, teaching with heart, and pouring into young lives. Yet, I found myself broke, disrespected, and burnt out. I was owed salaries, and at one point, even threatened for asking to be paid. That experience crushed me—but it also woke something up in me.
I cried in my mother’s arms and decided that day would be the last time I would work like a slave and have nothing to show for it. I had no plan, just pain — but I turned that pain into purpose. I began to write. I shared my story, built a brand, and started coaching others to write and publish their own books.
Now, I run Kevbes Book Haven and lead the African Writers Tribe — a movement empowering African writers across the continent and in the diaspora. I’ve helped children become authors, guided women to find healing through storytelling, and created platforms that elevate African voices.
My resilience was forged in that low moment — and it continues to guide how I show up, serve, and lead today.
How did you build your audience on social media?
My social media journey started with storytelling. I didn’t have a strategy at first — just a burden to speak from the heart and share my truth. I began posting about my journey as a teacher-turned-writer, the struggles I overcame, and how I was using storytelling to help others heal and grow. Slowly, people started paying attention.
I didn’t focus on being perfect — I focused on being real. I shared lessons, behind-the-scenes moments, small wins, failures, and everything in between. I used my platforms to highlight the work we were doing through Kevbes Book Haven and the African Writers Tribe, especially in publishing children authors, coaching new writers, and building a literary movement across Africa and the diaspora.
Community over virality was my goal. I responded to comments, engaged in conversations, and stayed consistent with content that added value — from writing tips to motivation, free trainings, and book projects. That’s how I built trust and loyalty over time.
My advice for anyone starting out:
Don’t try to impress — aim to impact. Be consistent, be generous, and be authentic. Use your platform to serve, not just to sell. People follow transformation, not perfection. Let them grow with you.
