Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joseph Tompkins. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Joseph, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I had the idea to start my business about 3 years before I ever took any action toward making it a reality. For year’s I feared the idea of failure & success due to my upbringing. Growing up on the streets of Detroit I had to survive homelessness and poverty almost every day of my younger life. I didn’t feel like Starting a business was a real option at least that’s how I felt at the time. All I ever saw anyone do was go to a 9-5 or do something illegal to get by. I carried that with me into my adult years and focused on getting a straight 9-5 knowing I had this unique idea for a business. While working I felt the walls closing in on me while doing some security work. I got tired of just driving to random empty lots and just sitting there for 8hrs a day with no purpose in the world. I had to do something to get out. So I began to research businesses and how to start one properly and my mind started to grow more and more excited by the idea of starting something from scratch. I finally took the leap and started the business and received a massive amount of local support which just continued to grow through social media and word of mouth to this day I’m thankful for the people who were around me in the beginning because without them telling me to go after my passion I would still be in that security lot today. Life has a way of leading you where you need to be at the time you need to be there.
Joseph, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
CONSISTENCY & staying true to your brand will take you far. I learned very early that if you wanna be recognizable you have to create a logo with colors that mean a lot to you and then hold true to all of it until you break through with your audience. If you have a clothing brand you should be wearing it and promoting constantly. People should see your content and instantly identify it back to you and your brand.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Two books that I highly suggest one is a booked Illogical by Emmanuel Acho and the second is Battle Cry by Jason Wilson. Both of these books are geared towards changing your life from the inside and out and giving you a unique outlook on following your goals. Must Read!
