We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joseph Stewart a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Joseph, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned while working at a prior job?
My partner, Lexton Faison, has extensive knowledge and experience working as a barista as well as the operations around the shop. We both had the opportunity of working in retail honing our skills in customer service, key indicators, and retention ratings. Overall, the important lesson Lexton and I gathered from our previous employments are that the experience you provide people are always what matters the most.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The opportunity was presented to us by our partner, Sejal Bellamy. She was the previous owner for fourteen years. We all work diligently to ensure that we provide our guests with quality products and service to start their day. We believe that someone starting their day with a wonderful personal experience is what has allowed us to make wonderful connections and having people stop by while stopping through Raleigh for events, such as Tinashe. However, on our normal day-to-day we try meticulously to cultivate an environment that people would love to come back to more and more!
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Maintaining a team of people with different personalities are something that is a challenge for anyone. But we accept that challenge by setting a precedent of communication and honesty with our team. We create an environment where dialogue is accepted to make the flow of work easier or even new inventions to keep things fresh!

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
The relationship my business partner and I have is a brotherhood. We initially met in high school in class and after we kept in contact. Over the years we got closer, knowing more about each other and realized how great we worked together. Our goals were aligned and we would inform each other on any new information we obtained and eventually decided to make our presence in the digital space. Going from a podcast to now being co-owners of a coffee shop were one of our ideas we’re still shocked came into fruition.
