We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Joseph Sheppard. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Joseph below.
Alright, Joseph thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Each day is a new adventure to follow your dreams. Success comes in many shapes and form, but it’s not always easy. A part of creating a winning mentality is taking time to honor The Valley and failures. Failure is not an ending unless we make it an ending; they can be powerful teaching lessons to help us accomplish our goals. If I would have stopped when life got hard, it would have grim experience.
What makes those dark days more bearable are the friends and loved ones that support. I wouldn’t be where I am without my supportive friends and family. Find people who will get excited with you on your dreams and goals. When I hit roadblocks, I try and think outside of the box or bounce ideas off those that I trust. I’m grateful for my friend Carolyn who pushes me to step outside of my comfort zone in running my own business. Networking is a powerful tool for success and people skills helps with that.
No matter how I’m feeling, I take time to honor that feeling so I can let it go. Then I choose happiness. Each day there is something new to be grateful for, my friend Leah taught me that. Having gratitude opens up doors of possibilities with abundance that the universe has to offer. Forgiveness is essential to keep yourself motivated. People tend to be hardest on themselves, so being able to forgive one’s own mistakes can remove mental blocks that get in the way of own success.
My friend Sandy and I love to meet and have coffee once a month or so. We bounce off ideas and just take time to hold space for each other. She reminds me that our mind can be our own enemy; I agree with that statement. Feng Shui is a practice Sandy likes to talk about; it’s helped me to open up opportunities for success. Keeping an open mind and having that mentality of learning something new can help elevate one’s own success. It’s a beautiful family that one can create in their own process of being successful.
I could go on and on about all the different people who’ve helped me to be the person I am today. Trust and faith in yourself goes a long way. Rest is just as important as work; fun and play are a crucial part of my way of living. It’s all about balance and how one keeps finding a spark of inspiration on a day to day basis. If one loses fun in life, then it can get mundane and one can lose drive. Laughter is healing especially when finding humor in the chaos of mishaps or left curved balls that life throws at someone. Success is what you make of it, so go out and get it.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve been seeing dead people, angels, and all kinds of “imaginative friends”. My family loved that I had a vivid imagination. It wasn’t always easy growing up; I guess my soul decided to get heavier life lessons out of the way at a young age. I’m a big advocate of mental illness, having struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts for many years. Fortunately I’ve come to heal those wounds of the past. I love helping people. When I do my intuitive readings or energy healing work, I give practical advice of how to work through those mental and emotional blocks.
I didn’t know there were other intuitive people like me until a series of events led me to my first metaphysical fair. I had recently got into a six car pile up and my air bag didn’t go off at 70 mph. Many of my friend’s at the time were just takers and consumed much of my time. I was hitting a low and I just screamed in my head saying “universe I’m tired of codependent friends. I want to meet my equals.” Then I saw an ad on Facebook for a local metaphysical fair and I thought to myself “there are other people like me?” That’s the fair I met many of my friends in the metaphysical community. Carolyn randomly tapped me on the shoulder in a tarot gallery and I told her that it was okay because she loved plants. That was a start to a beautiful friendship.
Carolyn has helped me to network and encouraged me to start my own business. She taught me to promote my skills and how to build clientele. I used to charge $5 for an aura reading, and now that I’m well established in my craft, I’m doing well for myself. I read auras, talk to angels, spirit guides, aliens, deities, and other people on one’s spirit team, tarot, and mediumship. I’m a reiki energy healer and I’ve helped so many people work through their emotional and mental blocks. My friends call me a magical unicorn.
I love helping people. I’ve already published three books. “Life of an Empath” series found on Amazon. I’ve sold over 200 copies of my book. Writing is such a strong passion of mine; I’m cute writing a how to book on channeling. That’s how I usually get my information is by channeling people’s energy and ways they can improve it. I’ve created in courses in stepping into spirituality with healings and tapping into one’s own gifts. I love sharing my exercises that I’ve used over the years to help develop my own gifts.
What sets me apart from other people is that ability to open up people and help them step into vulnerability. It’s so hard to find a safe place but I enjoy being that safe space for people. The joy, the laughter, the tears and everything in between pits a smile on my face. People come to me lost or confused and I help them help themselves to better their situation. I guide them on ways to heal, make smart decisions, and build that trust with themselves. I bring a little bit of magic to itch each interaction.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me is at fairs or just word of mouth. I meet so many new people at the metaphysical fairs I work; I love when they come back and bring more people. I don’t always realize how much of an impact I have made on people’s lives. Sometimes I’ll get random messages from people and they’re like I really enjoyed your reading at so and so fair and can you do a reading for this person. It’s a blessing to have such an impact and the universe finds a way to provide. You have to have really good people skills to be successful in this type of business and one really never knows how much of an impact one has on someone.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of my big lessons I had to unlearn was that I wasn’t worthy of success. I struggle quite a bit with the inner child self worth wound. Many times I would keep giving and giving over and over again. I’ve leaned to receive more and stand tall in who I am. Even intuitive readers need validation. Sometimes it’s like, did i impact that person? Did they feel like they got their money’s worth? Our mind is our own worst enemy and at the beginning I kept wanting to prove myself. It’s funny, Much of what I’m saying to my clients is also Spirit reminding me of what I could work on as well. It’s a beautiful transformation these last four years. I’m a quick learner and have helped thousands of people. I’ve reached people around the world and it’s really fueled my confidence in building success for myself.
