Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joseph Michael Bassey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Joseph Michael , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The Most Meaningful Project: Children’s Art Therapy Sessions in Land of Hope
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is the children’s art therapy sessions in Land of Hope, which culminated in the “Past Trauma Art Exhibition” at the Hex Museum in Denmark, “Think Ocean; London Fashion Week” in collaboration with Land Of Hope Fashion Week, and other impactful art exhibitions.
Backstory and Context
This project began when I partnered with Land of Hope, an organization dedicated to supporting vulnerable children. Many of these children had experienced trauma, and I witnessed firsthand the challenges they faced. I realized that art could be a powerful tool for healing and self-expression.
The Project’s Evolution
Anja Ringgren, co-founded Land of Hope with David Umem brought their passion and dedication to supporting vulnerable children through creative art projects.
This helps to process their emotions and experiences through art. Over several months, Anja worked closely together with me in creating a safe space for them to express themselves. As the project progressed, I saw the children’s confidence and creativity grow. Their art pieces became a testament to their strength and resilience.
The Exhibitions
The “Past Trauma Art Exhibition” at the Hex Museum in Denmark was a pivotal moment. Seeing the children’s art pieces displayed in a professional setting, alongside powerful stories of their journeys, was incredibly moving.
The “Think Ocean; London Fashion Week” in collaboration with Land Of Hope Fashion Week showcased sustainable fashion designs created by the children, highlighting the intersection of art, therapy, and environmental awareness.
Other exhibitions followed, each amplifying the project’s message and impact.
Why It’s Meaningful
This project is meaningful to me for several reasons:
1. Impact: Witnessing the positive impact of art therapy on the children’s lives was profoundly moving.
2. Awareness: The exhibitions helped raise awareness about the importance of supporting children who have experienced trauma and promoting sustainable fashion practices.
3. Personal Growth: This project pushed me out of my comfort zone, teaching me about the power of art, empathy, and community.
This project has left an indelible mark on my heart, and I continue to draw inspiration from the children’s stories, art, and resilience.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
As an artist and creative, I find the most rewarding aspect of my work to be the positive impact it has on the children I work with. Witnessing their joy and confidence grow through art therapy is incredibly fulfilling. Seeing them use art as a means of self-expression and communication is a powerful reminder of the impact art can have.
I’m also deeply rewarded by the opportunity to nurture the children’s sensitivity and creativity. Recognizing and valuing their unique perspectives and emotions allows them to tap into their imagination and create authentic, meaningful art. When they win art competitions or receive recognition for their work, it’s a testament to their hard work and dedication.
Ultimately, knowing that my work is making a positive difference in the lives of the children and their families gives me a sense of purpose and fulfillment. I’m grateful for the opportunity to grow and learn as an artist and individual, while also helping others to do the same.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My art journey has been profoundly shaped by my work with abused, neglected children who were forced to leave their homes. Despite the trauma and pain they had endured, these children’s resilience and capacity for hope inspired me to persevere in the face of adversity. Through art therapy, I witnessed them transform their experiences into powerful works of art, finding solace and empowerment in the creative process.
One child’s words still resonate with me: “Art helped me find my voice when no one else would listen.”
This moment solidified my commitment to using art as a tool for healing, resilience, and transformation, and I continue to draw inspiration from the courage and strength of these remarkable children.
