We recently connected with Joseph Luckett and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Joseph , thanks for joining us today. The more we talk about good leadership the more we think good leadership practices will spread and so we’d love for you to tell us a story about the best boss you’ve had and what they were like or what they did that was so great?
My first job was at Arby’s and my boss was Diane. She was the most transparent person I had ever met. She treated everyone with the same respect regardless of their position or tenure. She believed that should be the case in life and even if she didn’t see that as often as she should have in her own, she certainly treated her staff with equality everyday she was there. If I was at work and didn’t have any money for lunch, she would offer to cover the cost. If a former employee came in asking for their job back, she wouldn’t hesitate to give them a second chance. And I will never forget watching her offer a homeless person refuge and feeding them whenever she could. If she was at the store, people were taken care of.
I take that same approach with Zero to 100 and believe every person should be treated with the same respect and given the the same consideration as the next. That’s a big part of showing gratitude for what you have and sharing it with the world.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am the Founder and CEO of Zero to 100. We provide business-networking education for all who are looking to network more efficiently or just want to create better REAL-ationships. We hope to increase diversity within this community by providing guidance for all and ensuring those who are new or have never felt comfortable networking are given the chance to shine. We are here to provide assistance to all organizations to help with attrition whether your members pay a fee or not. We are here to server everyone, including the introvert and all abilities (blind, deaf, disabled, etc).
The very first networking event I attended is what led me to develop Zero to 100. When I stepped to the registration table at the event, nobody was there to greet me. I sat next to two people who didn’t say a word to me. I didn’t’ feel welcome at all. In addition to witnessing transactional, inauthentic, “means-to-an-end” interactions in business networking spaces, I noticed a serious lack of people of color in the business-networking community. Although I was told by several business networking organizations that I was their ally and they were helping to break that stigma, they didn’t have a plan and never followed through in truly making a difference in how the business networking community looked. I saw the power of networking and wanted to make it better. After this experience, I decided to be the kind of networker that celebrates everyone I met.
What sets us apart is that we are using measurable information that’s universal to all regardless of race or geography. This system allows everyone to produce results big or small. Inclusivity is in all our plans ensuring that everyone has a voice in what we are doing and that everyone has a seat at our table.
Hence our core values are B.I.G
Belonging – everyone has a seat at our table
Inclusive – everyone’s voice matters
Gratitude – being grateful and thankful for B & I

How did you build your audience on social media?
Most people when you give ask what do you expect in return. What can you do for me? Or like Ms. Janet Jackson said “What have you done for me lately?” I built my SM audience by providing value. Value to me doesn’t require sales, value to me means to deepen the
REAL-ationship. If I new xyz wanted to be more fit, if I found something involving fitness I would send to xyz. I knew that would assist in helping them reach their goal. If I was reading something that involved the Bible, I would send to my Christian friends in hopes that it would help in their walk. To my friends who were foodies – guess what they got? Recipes my wife found (that were fire!) and anything I came across that I thought they might like.
This type of sharing with others does not involve selling of any kind. It provides value to their interests which deepens the bond and REAL-tionships. When you give without expectation of receiving it will eventually be returned to you.
“Give + Expectation = Givexpectation.”
“Giving a warm introduction or referral with the expectation in getting something in return!” Joseph Luckett

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Follow-Through! In the business networking space, many tell you there is someone they would like to warmly introduce or refer you to and never follow through. One of the reasons why is they approach networking without a plan in place, the majority approaches like throwing sand against the wall hoping that some will stick. Utilizing your calendar and being able to hold yourself to a plan is key. I had a specific day that was dedicated to the follow – through. One day a week I referred and connected people to those I promised, which created value within my market as someone to be counted on and that would honor his word.
When one follows through consistently, that’s a testament to a level of trust you now have for them and shows you how much that person really values you.
