Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joseph Garner . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Joseph , appreciate you joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Zone 16 Network is the media platform. Auchentröllee is the retail division. Both names are huge Easter eggs for a brand built in Baltimore. Auchentoroly Terrace is a famous street in the historic neighborhood of Auchentoroly in the Greater Mondawmin community. Located just outside of the Zip code 21216, which is where Zone 16 originated. So for those in the know, they will realize that the brands names come from an historic neighborhood in West Baltimore city. My family has been rooted in this community since 1953. From the best of my knowledge, we were the first black family with a home on Gwynns Falls Pkwy and Auchentoroly.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In both industries, media and retail, I grew to a point where I didn’t mind the risk of striking out on my own to build brands in those respective areas. Once I partnered with my current fiancé, Ticia Samuel, the pivot or life choice became an obvious decision. We both desired to make a difference in our community being able to uplift others while at the same time providing an economic opportunity for ourselves and others. Our community needs more investment from Entrepreneurs that want to see it thrive as opposed to just taking without any intention to reinvest in the community.
