We recently connected with Joseph Franklin and have shared our conversation below.
Joseph , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
For me the most meaningful film I have worked on. I would have to say it would be my 4th indie film; “I, Surrender” I wrote and directed this film after I had taken a break from writing or putting out any projects. However, one day I was at my church and my pastor, at the time, preached on this sermon titled “I, Surrender” and it hit me so hard that it stuck with me for a few weeks. the way he put it together and what was said I felt like there was a visual message that needed to be seen. So I did some more research and asked my pastor if it was ok for me to use his notes and possibly some of his messages. He gave me the ok, so from then on I began writing. Once finished with the script, I was able to cast, secure locations, and begin filming. As filming was going on, I was able to rent out a theater and premiere my film there, where my pastor came and was amazed by the work that I had put together with his message.
Joseph , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name Is Joseph Franklin and I am an independent filmmaker. I am from Kansas City, MO but have been living in Atlanta, GA for the past 4 1/2 years. How I got into becoming an indie filmmaker, honestly was by having a vision God gave me acting on it. I don’t really have an amazing story behind it, I just started writing and didn’t have the funds for a big production film so I just prayed on it and went out and made it happen and things began to come together. The services that I provide as a filmmaker/videographer are editing and recording any type of events.(wedding, baby showers, music videos, etc..) Some problems I have solved for a few of my clients were correcting their footage they had from a previous videographer or being more efficient in my work for a lower price then what they had paid before. What I am most proud of is the fact that I am acting on my passion and things begin to just fall into place. What I want clients to know about my brand/company “Earthquake Film Group” is that I strive for perfection in my work and breaking my clients vision to life is a priority. What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What I feel helped me build my reputation is my respect for others, my faith and determination to make sure I put out a good quality piece. Also, because my prices have been lower than a lot of others doing what I do.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, I would say the most rewarding part of what I do, would be to see the audience’s reaction once they view one of my films. Or to see my clients reaction once I have brought their vision to life.
