We recently connected with Joseph Fell and have shared our conversation below.
Joseph, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I take a huge amount of pride in everything we’ve done as Fell Harvest, but our latest album The Dying is very special to me. It is the first work of my life that I really feel is done RIGHT. It is not perfect, but it has no shortcuts or compromises and really represents both myself and my bandmates in the light I think we deserve.

Joseph, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been a musician for over 30 years. I stepped away from active projects for quite a long time to focus on my career but returned roughly 10 years ago with an all original band called Thorns of Acanthus. After that project dissolved I was a live member of the Lovecraftian Black Metal band Crafteon before returning to Thorns with a new lineup. That lineup was what eventually became Fell Harvest.
My major influences in metal are the greats like Metallica, Dissection, Samael, Type O Negative and My Dying Bride. I am also inspired by many non-metal artists such as King’s X, Pink Floyd, Queen and Prince.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Fell Harvest released our first EP in March of 2020. We never got to play a CD, or do any kind of live promotion as the world was forcibly shut down right afterwards. It was quite daunting to us and to a lot of artists. We decided instead of folding up to double down, finish up some more material and record a full length over that summer. We faced many challenges then from the logistics of rehearsing and recording during a lockdown to my getting severely ill with COVID right as we were wrapping up the recording process. Ee finally released that album, Pale Light In a Dying World, in July of 2021 almost a year after we started it. Again we were prevented from giving it a proper live release because our then drummer had to be replaced. It was only after we found Mike that we were first able to perform those songs in February of 2022. By then it had been over two years since we’d been on the stage.
There certainly were a lot of moments during that time where both Liam and I wondered if it was worth it, but ultimately we both agreed this band was something neither of us could NOT do. So we pressed on until we finally released everything we needed to succeed.
Finally releasing The Dying this past spring, with a proper live unveiling and support from our new label DI Records was a great feeling of triumph.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
To write and perform the best material I possibly can. Fell Harvest is a life long dream coming true, to finally be able to write the music I’ve had in my imagination since I was a teenager and to play it for as many people as possible.
