We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Joseph Crocco. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Joseph below.
Joseph, appreciate you joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
The invention of the FoamGlide originated from Joe Crocco, a 25-year veteran L.A. County firefighter who, over time, developed multiple injuries to his back, hips, and shoulders. His rehab for these injuries required using a foam roller as prescribed by his physical therapist. However, many foam rolling positions made it difficult for Joe to rehab effectively. Joe’s invention of the FoamGlide enabled him to hold many different positions with ease and control. He could then effectively perform the targeted therapeutic exercises with his foam roller, as prescribed by his therapist. Applying controlled pressure to the areas Joe targeted became more effective and comfortable. His rehab and flexibility improved significantly, and he was inspired to continue his regime with greater motivation and confidence. His outcome of reduced pain and stiffness gave Joe better flexibility and range of motion.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Before I became firefighter, I worked in the construction field as a contractor. The invention of Foam Glide happened after 25 years as a firefighter where I developed injuries to my back and shoulders. Foam rolling was a big part of my physical therapy but I struggled holding the different positions.. With my background in construction and design, I had my a-ha-moment.
Foam Glide help solved these problems. Everybody that foam rolls with injuries or sore muscles has a very tough time holding certain positions, I’ve changed all that with one simple device.
My patented design of Foam Glide is a flat-base platform with a sliding seat that helps supports your body weight while you move back and forth over the foam roller. The handles on the side of the platform allow you to pull and push yourself with ease and comfort
The simplicity and effectiveness of Foam Glide is what makes my product so unique, There is nothing in the market like it, it’s one of a kind, and it provides the best for overall wellness.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Throughout my life, resilience means to me to never give up, to never quit, and work hard. If it’s something I really believe in like working construction, exercising, family, fighting fires or inventing a product, I always give 100% effort. This mindset is how I achieved all that I have today.
My journey was never easy. I’ve been challenged in ways that I never thought I could. This resilience, along with my passion and drive, is what keeps me motivated with my product Foam Glide.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I had to unlearn was having no patience. Being a firefighter requires making immediate decisions and being an entrepreneur I had to learn to slow my thought process which requires an great deal of patience. This new capability has allowed me to make better decisions to help with proficiency of my business.
