We were lucky to catch up with Joseph Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Joseph, thanks for joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think to be successful it takes consistency and growth. There will be times in any business where you don’t have many people watching you or purchasing your product. However, you need to make it through those days to get to the sold out products/ events. Success doesn’t happen overnight. Success happens when you work for it with everything you got.
Joseph, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Allow me to introduce myself, I go by Chef Joe. I am the chef and owner of Chef Life Catering LLC. With the help of my partner Jasmine as our marketing team, accounting department, and administrative department we make it happen! At Chef Life Catering, we specialize in quality fresh food. The Chef Life Experience begins the moment you see your plate.
I studied at The Art Institute of Philadelphia and graduated in 2010. So the culinary industry is one I am seasoned in. I have prepared meals for as many as 500 people. At Chef Life Catering, no event is too big or too small because I know my way around any kitchen.
Chef Life Catering services include: Full service catering, buffet style catering, meal prep, intimate dinners for two, brunches, and selling platters. We sell platters almost every weekend, which gives new customers a chance to try the food at a reasonable price. We can be found on Instagram, Tik Tok, and Facebook @cheflifewithjoe. When you reach the profile with nothing but great food, you’re in the right place!
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
I met my partner at work. I was a Chef and she worked in the front of the house. Our very first encounter, she yelled at me about taking plates from her work area. I thought to myself, I don’t have time for this and walked away. I kept my distance for awhile. Then Valentine’s Day of that year came and I guess love was in the air because I took another look at her and thought she’s cute without her glasses. From that point, we began talking and getting to know each other. The rest is history. She puts the Life in Chef Life!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing our clientele has been word of mouth. We have done pop ups and people get to see us in person and have their food prepared in front of them. That experience has allowed them to recommend us to others or share our updated menus on their platforms.
