We were lucky to catch up with Joseph Brackins recently and have shared our conversation below.
Joseph, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Hello, my name is Joseph Brackins I was born in Milwaukee ,Wisconsin I grew up as a kid watching my mother and father cooking different types of foods. My father is from Houston, Texas and my Mother s from New Madrid, Missouri so I enjoyed learning to barbeque grill all sorts of meats and vegetables also prepare a variety of side dishes, fruits and salads. I picked up and mastered the art of cooking Soul food from my mother . I was raised in the Midwest so I came up with my own original style of cooking and so I named my business Midwest Flava Catering, I am a very unique cook and my food has a very Soulful Taste so my Catch Phrase is (Food For The Soul). I am residing in the state of Georgia presently and I have visited a lot of restaurants to try different styles of foods and cooking. I feel like I have a very unique style and taste to my foods and that’s what makes me stand out from the rest of the restaurants and caterers.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I started out selling wings and fries on weekends and I also sold deli sandwiches with chips and a drink during the week to local businesses like barber shops, hair salons and smoke shops . I offered free delivery and I marketed myself as a caterer and saved money and invested in all the licenses and food equipment I needed to start my business

Have you ever had to pivot?
Yes I experienced a situation where I had to decide if my business should be presented as a restaurant or catering so I wind up pivoting my business from a restaurant premises to a catering and
became more successful and profitable as a business
