We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Joseph Benjamin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Joseph below.
Joseph , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Currently, I find myself at a pivotal moment, embracing various risks. One significant step is my return to the fashion world, a decision that carries considerable uncertainty. Through my experiences in recent years, I’ve come to realize the imperfections within the fashion industry, primarily centered around superficiality and glamour. My desire for change led me to establish Prophecybrand.com, heralding a new era in fashion publications.
At Prophecy Brand, we aim to seamlessly blend luxury fashion with spirituality and self-development editorials. Our primary focus is on collaborating with brands that recognize the significance of community building and narratives that illuminate the hidden aspects of ourselves we may have kept concealed even from our own awareness.
I am also a co-founder of Vidacher, a production company eagerly awaiting our defining moment to showcase our offerings to the world.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Joseph, a multifaceted entertainment and fashion strategist who seamlessly blends roles as a publicist, Senior Brand Manager, and editorial mastermind. With my innate ability to capture market trends, I’ve played a pivotal role in shaping campaigns for films, fashion, and lifestyle brands. My creative genius shines through in iconic campaigns such as “Gem and the Holograms” and “Justin Bieber – Believe”. However, my crowning achievement remains the globally recognized Netflix series “Sense8”, amassing over 2 billion views and earning accolades from major publications and award bodies.
My journey into the heart of brand representation spans seven years, encompassing product design, retail marketing, and media product placement. During this time, I’ve propelled numerous brands towards prominence. Notably, my work with the luxury skincare brand La Mer, featured in Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, stands as a testament to my expertise.
Beyond my roles in publicity and brand management, my editorial prowess shines. Serving as the Editorial Creative Director of Reverie: Page Magazine for two years, I played a pivotal role in positioning the sustainable fashion magazine as a vanguard in the industry. Under my leadership, the magazine not only thrived but redefined luxury standards by championing sustainability. My editorial voice extends beyond the realms of fashion and beauty, resonating with a diverse readership in areas of spirituality and self-development.
As a forward-thinking entrepreneur, I adapt to the shifting business environment, ensuring strategic and successful outcomes for my clients. With a rich tapestry of experiences, I stand on the cusp of creating a brand that embodies my vast expertise and vision.
How I got started isn’t the point; it’s the journey that matters. I often advise my clients to pay attention to the journey because that’s where the lessons lie, where we learn, grow, and become better versions of ourselves.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
A significant moment in my past occurred during my internship at Elite Models in San Francisco. Someone whom I still greatly admire shared a valuable lesson with me that continues to resonate. They imparted, “In an industry where everyone talks about what they can do, but few can truly deliver, think deeply about your actions and approach. To receive value, you must be willing to give it first.”
Those words left an indelible mark on me. Whether I’m dealing with an emerging designer or an established brand with a rich history, I consistently prioritize giving value before expecting anything in return. This principle has opened doors to countless opportunities and garnered me widespread recognition and praise.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Before embarking on my career, I vividly recall watching an interview with Kelly Cutrone. During that interview, she candidly stated that 80% of the interns passing through her office harbored somewhat unrealistic expectations of the fashion industry.
Once immersed in the industry, they quickly realized it wasn’t all about glitz and glam; it was a realm of hard work, rejection, and the occasional dressing-down from higher-ups for mistakes that could potentially cost them dearly. I entered the fashion world during a period when having thick skin was essential for survival.
Those words from Kelly Cutrone resonated deeply with me, prompting me to shed any preconceived notions I had about the industry. I was prepared to do whatever it took. Whether it was being in the presence of fashion’s elite, learning from them, or even fetching coffee and occasionally tending to unglamorous tasks like cleaning shoes, I was eager to prove myself as dependable and reliable.
I discovered that any job could be approached with decency and respect. I carried my sense of self-worth with me, without needing to impose it on others. Instead, I demonstrated it through my unwavering commitment, courage, and an expectation of receiving the respect I deserved.
