We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Joseph Baldwin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Joseph below.
Hi Joseph , thanks for joining us today. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
How I came about my interest for photography and launching my business started out as a podcast. My primary goal was to create a space for local artist and business owners to have platform to promote their business and tell their story. I believe everyone has a unique story to tell. Secondly, I wanted to address and bring about awareness to mental health issues. The next few days and months I spent creating youtube videos on different topics concerning mental health and wellness. During this time I was going through a transitional period in my life that pushed me to take a leap of faith and start my podcast. I researched through serval youtube videos on how to start a business and what it takes to maintain and grow a brand. Lastly, I created a plan for when and how I would launch my business and then I executed the plan.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into the photography industry through skateboarding. I remember receiving my first video camcorder as a gift for Christmas in 2013. I started out filming myself and my friends skateboarding creating “sponsor me” tapes. In which we would send to skateboarding brands and local skate shops to showcase our skills in the hopes of being selected to become apart of their skate teams. As, the years passed on I gained interest in becoming apart of the film industry as a director. Prior to this I had little knowledge about how to use a camera effectively and capture the “moment”. The service I provide to my clients is the experience. I believe in order to have consistent clientele and business you have to key in on the experience the customers are receiving instead of the profit. My job is to provide my clients with the best quality, experience and memorable moments captured through my camera. The thing I am most proud of is my discipline to continue growing and evolving as a business owner and a photographer. Starting out as an amateur photographer can be intimidating because of the price of camera gear and the amount of time it takes to produce quality and unique images. I am now into my second year of photography and I can see the progression I have made over the last two years. The main thing I want potential clients, followers and fans to know is that you will have the best experience and amazing photos working with me.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The overall goal I am pursuing in my creative journey within the photography industry is creating captivating pieces that will live on beyond my time. I value the process it takes to produce art. I always wanted to have some of my work showcased in vogue magazine. Also, I am working towards opening a photography studio of my own. The goal here is to create a community that is free of judgement and promotes support for upcoming creative artist such as myself. Lastly, I want to inspire photographers to be confident in their style of shooting. Sometimes we compare ourselves to other photographer’s style and work. Which causes us to lose sight of how unique and special our style of photography is.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative has to be the ability to bring ideas to life. Everyone has a creative imagination and brilliant ideas. Yet, to go through the process is an experience of itself. There are many times of doubt, setbacks and challenges along the creative process. That require us to become uncomfortable with the way we approach our creative projects. In those moments we discover our potential and the ability to problem solve the challenges that occur during our creative process. As a result, we are able to bring our creative imaginations to life.
