We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joseph Abitbol a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Joseph thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

The idea for our business originated from our deep involvement in the jewelry industry and a desire to address ethical concerns associated with traditional earth-mined diamonds. It is also special thanks to my father who has been a role model for me throughout my entire career. He has been in the business for almost 50 years and he is a true leader in the industry. He showed me exactly how to lead a business with ethical standards over money.

As someone with over 25 years of experience in the jewelry family business, I witnessed firsthand the mining practices and supply chain issues that plagued the industry.

I was inspired to make a positive change by introducing Lab-Grown Diamonds as an alternative to traditional earth-mined diamonds. I saw that lab-grown diamonds possessed the same quality and visual appeal as natural diamonds, yet they were free from ethical and environmental drawbacks. As a result, Karaters was born – a business that would offer customers an equally valuable gemstone while promoting ethical practices and minimizing the impact on the environment.

Joseph , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Our business is called Karaters™, and we specialize in offering a wide range of exquisite jewelry pieces, with a particular focus on Lab-Grown Diamonds. We provide beautifully crafted rings, necklaces, earrings, and more, all made with the highest-quality precious metals and ethically sourced lab-grown diamonds. Our goal is to offer our customers stunning jewelry that not only looks incredible but also aligns with their values and contributes to a better world.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?

Karaters ™ Was founded by siblings, Joseph and Hanna who have both been in the jewelry family business for over 25 years. We took our expertise, experience, and passion to help create something needed in the business. We are based in Los Angeles’s Jewelry district and sell to the entire USA and Canada. Before selling directly to retail we have been heavily involved in the wholesale diamond trade.
