We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joselyn Rodriguez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Joselyn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
Sometimes I wish I started sooner but I know that I am exactly where I need to be and that things happen for a reason, my time will come. I have always known I wanted to be in the entertainment industry, As a kid I would often create talent shows for my parents as well as get involved in arts in school. I was always part of the dance teams in my school. Also growing up I was part of the acting ministry in my former church. I also did pupeteering for the kids at church. I create content which is based on acting, roleplay and some cosplays as well.
Joselyn, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I create content based on acting. I make POVs (points of views) which are like storytelling but with the audience point of view. It’s like a book in a POV setting. I am a very hard worker and always push myself to keep creating. I can be showering or eating dinner and a lot of ideas come into mind. Sometimes it’s exhausting because I get so many ideas and don’t have enough time in the date to perform. What sets me apart from others is that I have a passion for helping people cheer up and bring awareness to different topics I reenact. I am very disciplined in a way that I like to get things done and not procrastinate. I don’t really write things down, it’s kinda like I have my own agenda imprinted on my brain. I have a very kind heart as well as I don’t let people get me down. I have to meditate often to be able to recharge my energy, because I have found that a lot of people get attached to my energy often leaving me drained. I am very hardworking and I don’t like to give up too easily. I create because it’s my passion and it’s actually a form of therapy for me.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creator is the fact that I get to connect with so many wonderful people in my audience. A lot of my audience can relate to the type of content I put out and it also uplifts their spirits up. I have plenty of comments from young people that often tell me” because of you I am more confident “ or “thank you so much for putting this out there” it’s a wonderful connection and a true blessing to be able to have that with my audience.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
In my view society can help a lot by focusing on the persons talent and not the numbers. Numbers are important I understand but if we don’t get the same treatment as “famous” influencers how are we to grow?. How will we get known for our craft instead of numbers? For me this is why I continue to do what I love and what I’m passionate for.
