We recently connected with Joselito Ortiz and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Joselito , thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My current journey is one big, meaningful project. What makes it so meaningful is my goal to show everyone that no matter who you are or what background you come from, you can absolutely succeed in photography if you want to. Most importantly, you can create amazing work with any equipment. The biggest issue in today’s society is the constant push for the latest and greatest technology with all the bells and whistles. In reality, you don’t need that. You can create something ten times better than someone with the best gear in the world simply by focusing on creativity and skill.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
A little bit about me: I’ve always been interested in photography and dabbled in it here and there. However, what used to push me away were the things I’d see, hear, or read—comments, articles, and even YouTube videos—where people made it seem like you needed the best cameras to even have a chance at being successful. On top of that, I was dealing with my own personal mental struggles, and it became the perfect combination to go against my better judgment and not pursue it.
But after working on myself and my mental health, I came to the realization: why not go for it? Life’s too short. What’s the worst I could lose by chasing something I’m passionate about? At the end of the day, I’ll feel accomplished for doing something I enjoy. I can live with not being “successful,” as long as my work reaches the right people who can use it as motivation for their own journeys.
Photography also gives me the opportunity to express my various mood shifts through my art. It’s truly a great way to release emotions and connect with others on a deeper level.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I believe the best way society can support artists and creatives in a thriving ecosystem is by improving algorithms to help connect like-minded individuals and creators with similar follower counts or interests. This would increase the chances of meaningful connections and collaboration. How else can we grow if we’re not guided in the right direction to meet the right people.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of what I do is being able to make people feel the raw emotion of my photography with as little context as possible. I want them to get a sense of where I’m coming from and the emotions I’m experiencing, while also allowing them to connect with it in their own way and feel their own emotions through it.
