Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jose Gutierrez . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jose, thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned what I I do know by experimenting with camera settings. To speed up the process I would still do the same thing learning my camera settings at different light settings wether it’s night or day. The skills that were most essential where knowing my camera, it’s repetitive I know but I’m glad I was able to sit down and play with every function there is and either turn off one on a setting and see what it does and what’s different. Obstacles that stood in my way was shooting events at first. I didn’t know where to start or who to ask. It’s hard nowadays to have someone trust you to shoot an event without a background
Jose, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
How I started was going to carmeets. Took pictures here and there and I would share them to the owners of the cars . From there people were talking about me and met new people. With meeting new people I then met opportunities, which brought me to doing shoots for not just cars but events , clubs , celebrities etc. shooting cars and people in daylight is easier than shooting at events and nightclubs in some cases pitch dark but I was up for the challenge . I learned from practicing and studying light. Light is very important any in photography and videography and with understanding it I was able to shoot anywhere . Taking pictures not only brought amazing people to my life but also took me to places where I’ve never imagined being there . Not just to witness but to perform what I love doing taking pictures at well knowing events or taking pictures of celebrities.I am most proud of myself for stepping up to the plate or out of my comfort zone and just go for it at the end you do it or you never will, I had nothing to lose so I gave it a try and my life changed. For photographers or videographers out there don’t give up chase your dreams and practice with your cameras settings, step out of your comfort zone and chase yours dream
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Resources for event photographers is honestly photographers word of mouth and skills to make you a better creative.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal in the future is to gather creatives together and teach them skills for event shooting
