We recently connected with Jose Garcia and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jose thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
We manage our own social media. I’m an experienced marketer with over a decade supporting growing brands. It’s nice to finally have the opportunity to promote something that’s mine. My wife, Jazzy, manages operations in our coffee trailer, and I make sure we look good digitally. We’re both passionate about what we do, and together we feel we’re building something special at Mocha Motion Coffee!
We’re approaching our one year anniversary, it was an awesome year of growth! We learned a lot about the food truck industry and finding ways to connect with our audience, Social media is important in the food truck business. We’ve had a fair amount of success so far. I attribute that to our consistency on social media, and the high level of service and quality we push out.
If I could offer any insight to other business owners it would be to listen to your customers needs, and always be willing to adapt your social strategy to better serve their needs.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My wife, Jazzy, and I own Mocha Motion Coffee. We are a mobile boutique beverage bar in Lancaster, Pa. We serve handcrafted espresso drinks, fresh smoothies, and acai bowls at some of the Lancaster area’s favorite food truck events!
Jazzy is an experienced restauranteur, having led teams at a handful of local eateries and cafes. I’m a creative professional and a dreamer.
In 2020, Jazzy and I were both frustrated professionally. Our careers weren’t moving in ways we hoped, so we committed to making things happen for ourselves. With our mutual love for espresso and our complimentary skillsets, we decided to start a coffee trailer..
The pandemic slowed down our plans, but it gave us time to properly think through our strategy. In January 2022, we got a mentor, made a business plan, and registered our LLC. Over the next year we worked with our mentor and bank to build the foundation of our business.
We purchased our fancy new concession trailer in December 2022 and were operational by March 2023. The first few months were hard. There’s a ton of work that comes with running a food truck or trailer. Small setbacks and unexpected obstacles pop up and it’s easy to want to give up. We persevered and found ways to stay motivated in pursuit of the goal and our dream in front of us.
In our first year in operation, we’ve learned a lot, and made a lot of new friends and fans. We want to help make Lancaster’s best events and private parties more “buzzworthy” and memorable. We take a lot of care in every drink we create and are proud to be a favorite indulgence for many local coffee lovers.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I mentioned earlier how Jazzy and I were both dissatisfied with our careers in 2020. She was managing a local cafe, and I was working in higher education. Our careers felt stagnant and growth was limited. Wanting more for ourselves, we decided that if we weren’t going to get the career opportunities we believed we deserved, we would make our own way.
Our motto at the the time was “find a way, not, an excuse”. We put our goals down on paper and started our journey toward being owners in the food business. With an end goal in mind it became a little easier to chart our course. I think the challenge is continually making progress and staying motivated when things go wrong. We held each other accountable and worked everyday to ensure we were moving closer to our goal. We celebrated all of our wins, big and small, and we never let any setbacks deter us. We worked hard to make sure our finances could afford our leap of faith, and when the opportunity presented itself, we jumped in.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
We hang our hat on our customer service and making sure our guests have a positive experience with us. We want everyone to feel like a friend. Everyone is welcome. We also think our drinks and acai bowls are pretty great! I think our friends and fans would agree. We put a lot of care into everything we do.
