How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The initial years of my career in real estate were filled with continuous learning, experimentation, and striving for growth. However, nothing could have prepared me for the crazy impact of the 2008 housing market crash, a defining moment in the history of the U.S. housing market. The crash not only devastated homeowners and industry professionals but triggered a widespread economic recession.
During this intense period, I faced personal financial challenges that tested me. Struggling to make mortgage payments, facing the foreclosure of my first investment property, short-selling my primary home, and accumulating credit card debt – these were difficult times.
Yet, in the face of adversity, I refused to accept defeat. Recognizing the need for a significant pivot, I transformed my business approach. For the first time, I partnered with a colleague and began assembling a team of determined and resilient agents. We focused on representing banks, which were acquiring numerous foreclosed properties. This shift required an immense amount of hard work, dedication, and long hours, but it was a crucial step for survival.
Our efforts gradually paid off. We developed efficient systems, encouraged a strong team spirit, and learned to navigate and adapt to market fluctuations. This period of intense challenge became a crucial time for growth and learning. As the market eventually stabilized, I emerged in a stronger position than before. Not only had I managed to clear my debts and build a savings account, but I also seized investment opportunities along the way. Most importantly, I was able to purchase a new home for myself and my wife.
This experience was a defining moment in my career. It taught me the importance of resilience, adaptability, and the power of a unified team. It was a testament to the fact that even in the darkest hours, with hard work and a willingness to pivot, one can emerge stronger and more prepared for future challenges
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Throughout my career, I’ve explored various methods to acquire new clients, ranging from traditional tactics like cold calling and door knocking to more engaging activities like hosting open houses and events. However, the most effective source of new clients has been the emphasis on providing a five-star experience to everyone who works with my team and me.
By focusing on delivering exceptional service, we’ve created a system where our satisfied clients become our most powerful advocates. They know that by referring their friends and family to us, they’re entrusting them to capable and reliable hands.
