Josanne and Ladrea, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Your ability to build a team is often a key determinant of your success as a business owner and so we’d love to get a conversation going with successful entrepreneurs like yourself around what your recruiting process was like -especially early on. How did you build your team?

We started Our Salon with just Us and an assistant, who followed Us from our previous Salon Home. Recruiting other Stylist was somewhat a challenge as we needed to find Stylist that fit into the Culture and Community that we were trying to Create. The interview process was also difficult simply because most Stylist were familiar with Individual Style Salons where you are your own Boss, but our Vision was to Create a Team of Excellent Stylist who served our Clients and Create a Safe space for Clients to receive Hair Services as well as a Community Space.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

We are Best Friends turned Business Partners. We worked together for eight years before branching out and Opening our own Salon. We are a Baltimore Based Natural Hair Care Salon, and are one of the few Full Service Natural Hair Salons in the Area specializing in Sisterlocks, Natural Hair Care Services, Professional Color Services. We also have both a Nail Tech and Lash Tech on Board. We are simply proud of the Team of Amazing Stylist and Service providers that we have brought together. Our goal is to ensure that we are always serving our Community through the Beauty Experience!

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?

Word of Mouth. Our Clients are our walking Billboards!

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?

How to win friends and Influence People. This Book has helped with both Leadership and Communication within our Team and allows us to effectively communicate through Teamwork.
