We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jorielle King a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jorielle, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made?
As a certified John Maxwell Leadership Team coach, trainer, and speaker, I take investing in my personal and professional development seriously. During my initial registration, I only expected to receive my life coach certification through the MLT certification program. I had no idea other opportunities, such as, certified public speaking and leadership development training, would be made available to me. As a result of my investing in the program, I was invited to speak at a conference in Orlando, Florida and I have recently been presented with the possibility of offering training for a well known and black owned establishment here in Atlanta, Ga. I am blessed to both participate in spaces with and have access to being mentored by world-renowned leaders. I use all I learn for the benefit of my clients. I stand firm on the ideology that everyone is capable of achieving greatness, however that speaks to your spirit, and with the right training and support anyone can be led from obstacles to opportunities. I have helped many who felt stuck and uncertain to see things from an encouraging perspective to reach their desired goals and YOU CAN BE NEXT!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi! I am Jorielle, your Strategy Coach aka Coach J aka your Strategy Sis. I help millennial business owners develop confidence and clarity to take the next step in their business. At the age of 23, I began experiencing a desire to discover my purpose and add value to others, so, at 25, I started Voices of Volume LLC with nothing but a passion to encourage and lead. Now at 27, I am a full-time entrepreneur and business owner, and getting to do what I love daily with no limits. Voices of Volume offers three distinct programs: public speaking, individual and corporate leadership development, and life coaching. I add value to my clients, not just through motivating them, but by helping them create personalized strategic plans that will continually encourage their God-given vision.
Imagine a life where:
• You have COMPLETE CLARITY in your life, business, and purpose
• You have gotten rid of uninspiring patterns and have a CAPTIVATING CAREER AND PERSONALITY
• You have finally SILENCED YOUR INNER CRITIC who constantly makes negative thoughts sound like the truth
• You have BROKEN EVERY BARRIER that was holding you back
• You are the BEST VERSION OF YOURSELF and know that God is well pleased with you
Sounds like a dream right?
Do you want this life?
I help millennials understand what is preventing them from living a fulfilling life. More often than not, these disruptions are attributed to limiting beliefs and a scarcity mindset. The sad truth is that most people are aware of their limited thought system, but are still unable to overcome it. I offer support in breaking these cycles. I bring positive energy to our safe space meetings, focusing my attention on you to help you navigate life’s challenges and uncertainties.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in science, and worked in corporate America until February 2022. I enjoyed my job but I wanted more– financial stability, work-life balance, and freedom. Overtime, I grew tired of poor leadership and my God-given gifts being overlooked and undervalued. I began to think of how I could grow as a leader, accomplish my goal of becoming a successful business owner, and leave corporate America. I knew it was time to pivot when I decided that the energy I was putting into someone else’s dream, I could now put into my own.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Leaving corporate America, I have had to unlearn the most standard of practices. In those environments you are taught early on that you must fear rejection and failure. When in reality the worst thing someone can say is “no”. This simple word can provide a host of better opportunities that you may have never allowed yourself to fantasize about, but you would not know that because hearing “no” in the corporate world seems to discredit the value of the individual on the receiving end, which can ultimately feel equivalent to someone slamming a door shut in front of you and locking it behind them. As an entrepreneur, there are lessons to be learned in failure and rejection, we call it failing forward. There are also expectations about wages and hours worked that you are expected to accept with little to no negotiation. For instance, before starting a job you are told how many hours to work, which days, and how much, or little, you will be paid. Now if you are salaried, it is even more disadvantageous because more often than not, we are overworked and underpaid. As an entrepreneur, the sky’s the limit when determining personal value and the amount of hours you choose to devote each day. You create your own standard of success on a daily basis — your personal goals and expectations. Every hour spent is not only an investment into your business but to yourself as well.
