We recently connected with Jorge Styles and have shared our conversation below.
Jorge, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
January 1st 2023. 12am. New year. As I was looking back on 2022, I had done my first art show. Finally put myself out there and did it. So for 2023 I was looking to do multiple art shows, have work shown in a gallery, be featured in a magazine, and sell a painting for $1,000+. I figured I’d shoot for the stars for 2023. God made a way for me to hit every single goal, and it’s really just the beginning.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
So I go by Jorge Styles, and I’m a local artist who mainly does canvas paintings along with hand painted clothing. my story’s probably a little different from other artists. I didn’t paint/draw my entire life. I would draw some when I was younger but stopped altogether when I was in middle school. I picked up drawing and painting again a little before the pandemic with plans to design clothes and graphics for clothing, but the more I drew and painted, the more it kind of took on a world of its own. I used to write a lot as well and have recently started combining written work with my paintings as well, and I feel that’s the aspect that’s going to set me apart even more in 2024. All my paintings are stories in visual form, and I plan on capitalizing on that unique aspect more. One of the things I’m most proud of is selling a large scale painting for over $1,000 when it didn’t sell for over a year. I knew it’s value and decided I would rather hold onto it for eternity rather than undervalue my work. It was reassuring to know my collector saw the value that I saw.
If I were to describe Jorge Styles’ artwork in a few words, I would go with visual storytelling. When someone buys a painting, they’re not just buying a cool picture for their wall. They’re buying a story, a moment of growth or trial, an emotion. Now is the time to invest in Jorge Styles.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I wouldn’t say I have a massive audience, but at this point about 90% of my work has sold from social media posts. Ironically enough, it started performing the best when I promoted my social media in person at shows or events. A lot of artists are introverted, but, something I would tell someone just starting out is, when you want to go from hobbyist to artist, you have to network. I’ve grown exponentially in 2023 by my network alone. Any success I’ve had in art is directly related to the people I’ve met. It’s uncomfortable at first, but one of the best ways I’ve grown on social media is by growing my presence in the community and with other creatives.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I want to be better than the creative I was yesterday. I don’t want to regret having not given my all to gifts God gave me. If I were to put it into tangible terms, I want to be the greatest Puerto Rican artist ever. I want to dream so big that it makes me feel almost uncomfortable thinking about how big of a goal that is. I want to leave a legacy for my family, children, future children’s children. I want to be the very best I can possibly be.
