Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jorge Blanco. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jorge thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I have been living from my artwork all my life.

Jorge, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Jorge Blanco (American, born 1945) Jorge’s artwork is part of public and private art collections worldwide.
Jorge Blanco unveiled his first sculpture in 1972 and has worked continuously since, never moving away from his artistic production. In his sculptures Blanco works with profound levels of humor, linking an extraordinary witty force with the playful character of his pieces, without being frivolous, while at the same time he is fully aware of the involving dialogue established with the public.
As a multi-talented artist, Blanco creates poetic and joyful art, his art surprises us, transforms us and leaves us with a fresh perception of the world.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
The best way to support individual artists is by collecting their work, buying directly from the artist or through the galleries that represent them. Many art enthusiasts donate millions of dollars to institutions, forgetting that struggling artists need the funds to create their work and make a living.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I have always created art and in the past decades have sacrificed many things to be able to fabricate my creations, without financial support from anyone. Recently I have magnificent support in my hometown of Sarasota. With their help I am free to create more art. You can visit Andrew Ford Fine Art in the Burns Court historic area. I am also very lucky to have the support of developers that appreciate my art and commission pieces for their projects. An example is Architect and Developer Albert Socol who commissioned works for a new 5 star hotel in Orlando, Florida.
