Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jorge and Maria Camacho. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jorge and Maria, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
We started our farm because it was our dream to have a hobby farm and raise a family; that was our goal when we got married. We had put those plans on the back burner and let God take over our life and direct us where we needed to be first, which was to take care of my mother and grandmother and help them since they had no one else to care for them. Since I got married, I brought them along with me. The Lord, in His Word, talks about honoring your parents, and He will bless you with long-lasting life and, of course, bless you in all you do. Well, three years after being married, we found the perfect home with around four acres. We were blessed to have been the ones selected, since there were several interested in the home. My grandmother had told us to fence the property once we could afford it and buy farm animals, like she once had in Mexico. We had that in mind from the beginning, but had waited to care for them first. After my grandmother passed, the Lord blessed us with another six acres behind our property that our neighbor decided to sell us; then we were blessed to be able to buy animals. Finally, we were living our dream, and the community could see our animals from the road and would always stop by my neighbor’s driveway to let their kids see our animals. Our neighbor was getting upset at all the cars coming up her driveway and asked us to please put our animals in the back. We listened to our neighbor, but God had a plan. Soon, cars were coming up our driveway to ask about our animals and were concerned that they didn’t see them from the road. We explained the situation, and they asked if they could come and see our animals on our property instead. People were coming and making big donations so we could feed our animals, and we felt bad receiving the money, so we decided to charge a small admission fee, and that is how Camacho’s Mini Farm Acres came about.

Jorge and Maria, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Although having a petting zoo open to the public was not in our plans, it was in God’s plans. He has walked with us every step of the way! Although we became entrepreneurs for our tile business, Landin’s Tile Work LLC, back in 2015, we didn’t know anything about running a petting zoo because that was not our area of experience. We only had experience in our tile business. We are thankful to our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, for planning out our petting zoo and making it possible for us to run it as if we had the experience. We have learned that when you let the Lord use you as an instrument, everything we do is for His glory and purpose only, and it’s when we will receive the most success. Putting His kingdom first, as mentioned in the Bible, allows Him to make sure all our needs are met. This would be the only answer to how we have been able to accomplish and have so much success: putting everything in God’s hands. We hear it from the community so many times that our farm is a blessing to our community. We know the Lord has used us for His glory!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We built our audience on social media very quickly, and we didn’t realize how that had happened at the beginning. We then learned that people were enjoying our content because we were just being ourselves and sharing everything we were experiencing and learning as we went through the process of growing our farm. I believe our audience enjoyed how transparent we are in our live videos and enjoy learning with us; some of our audience have even enjoyed teaching us and giving us advice on what had helped them with their farm animals. We truly feel blessed with our followers on Facebook; we feel we have established a Facebook family and feel the love and affection from each of them. I believe that when you are honest and be yourself, unique without copying anyone else, it’s when you receive the most success , because God made us all different, and that is what people enjoy – the difference between our farm and other farms.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met my business partner at a Mexican band concert; he is my husband, and we never thought we’d be business partners as well. We fell in love, started a family, and then our first business, Landin’s Tile Work LLC. Then our farm came along, and we continued to work together, learning not to mix our marriage with our business, which can be very challenging because all business owners know that once you have a business, you are basically married to it too. Mini vacations and church on Fridays and Sundays have helped us disconnect from our business and reconnect with each other, and I thank the Lord for helping us understand how to do so. I believe our love is very strong, and it has also helped us learn not to let anything get in our way.
