We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Joretta Powell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Joretta, appreciate you joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
I always had a love for creating things and making them as beautiful as possible. I started out as a full time crafter and as I began to create items with crafting it allowed me to build the confidence to venture off into other places that allowed me to further more express my creativity as much as possible. I started out with a simple balloon structure and as I fell in love with balloons I started my journey to being a luxury event planer.
Joretta, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the party planning industry after two years being in the crafting industry, I loved the crafting era of my life because it allowed me to show myself I can take a blank canvas and make something beautiful and elegant or make something creative and funky! In this industry you have to have so much discipline, because everyone wants to diy everything because event planners make it look so easy they make it look like it’s a walk in the park and on those days or those seasons they money may not flow as fast as it would during wedding season, graduation season or any big seasons of the year so knowing this and still creating content and giving solid advice to those who want to be in the industry is still imperative. I am a full service event planner this means I take all of your chaos and turn it into something beautiful and extraveagent. the one thing I am most proud of is the fact that I did not quit.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
I am actually married to the cofounder and my business partner Deon Powell. Deon is over the wood projects, props and other set up needs, without him and our children I am not sure how far I would be in this business. We have known each other a very long time we actually went to high school together and we never spoke years later we ended up dating and by September of 2019 we were married! Deon has been a solid foundation to helping maintain a sane mind when planning events, getting decorations up in the time frames that are set and making sure the props are all done on time.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
One of the most rewarding aspects of being an creative artist is being able to see the excitement on all of our clients faces. I love being able to use my hands to create so many different things and bring parties to life! However the greatest gift of being a creative is when you get to be apart of some ones long lasting memory! from first birthdays to graduations and more!
