We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jordyn Villarreal. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jordyn below.
Hi Jordyn, thanks for joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
One thing that separates me for many nail techs is focus on natural nail health and growth by offering Gel-X and Structured Manicures. Gel-X is a pre-shaped soft gel extension that is applied with an extension gel glue and cured with an led/uv light. Structured manicures is a soft gel overlay meant to help your natural nails with strength and structure in order to grow long
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jordyn Villarreal I am a Houston native and licensed Nail Tech. My business partners and I’s private suite located at Mallorca Salon Suites near 410 & Ingram. I have always been interested in the beauty industry but it wasn’t until my partner encouraged me to peruse it and I haven’t looked back. After having a bad salon experience I decided to venture off on my own and created Lua Creations by Jordyn. My services mainly include anything soft gel related as well as specializing in nail art. Most of my clients find me when they are wanting to start their natural nail journey. Many of them don’t think they can grow them long but with the right maintenance and care they can get their nails on their dreams. I am most proud of being an independent tech and a mother to a 1 year old. She was about 3 months when I started working and she has motivated me to try and make it as far as I can.
Have you ever had to pivot?
While is cosmetology school I thought I knew I wanted to do hair and yes I was good at nails but I thought I was meant to do hair. I also thought I would never want to work for myself. But was I wrong on both parts. Although I do some hair sometimes I am very happy I ended up choosing to do nails.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Customer service and making clients feel comfortable is something I strive for. Treating clients how I would like to be treated if the roles were reversed.
