We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jordyn Marie. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jordyn below.
Jordyn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
Well, Both of my parents are creatives. From an early age they definitely gave me lots of tools to express myself. Whether that be a musical instrument, or introducing me to an extracurricular like dance. They’re both musicians and DJs, so I was bound to learn and have some musical inclination. I think the best part about it all is that it made me fall in love with music, which is so important for me as a creative. My parents were and still are very supportive in every aspect of my life.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Jordyn Marie, and I’m a Dancer, DJ, Actress, Sound Mixer, Hair Braider Production Assistant, Social Media Manager and Editor. I do a lot, and honestly I don’t think it’s overwhelming for me, it keeps me on my toes, and I always have something to do. I recently graduated Full Sail University with my bachelors of science in film production in May 2023, and ever since then I have been working on different productions and I am currently a dance teacher. My favorite question when I am on set somewhere is “what is your ultimate goal in the film industry?“. My answer is always the same, I tell them “I want to do everything, I like, being a part of the experience, whether that be in front of the camera or behind it”. I’ve been dancing since I was little and it really feels like a full circle moment now that I get to teach little kids how to dance and express themselves. I try my best to express myself in everything that i do. Seeing the transformation when i do hair, start a new audio mix or choreographing a dance from start to finish just makes the whole process worth it.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I enjoy learning new things. Not only do I like obtaining new information, but I also treat my life experiences like lessons so that I can grow physically and Intellectually.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
The types of music I listen to definitely has impacted the way I think about certain things but I also like watching interviews of people that I admire like Teyana Taylor, Taraji P. Henson, Zendaya and Issa Rae. Seeing strong black women do amazing things inspires me to want to do more.
