We were lucky to catch up with Jordy Gnarpony recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jordy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
As much as my brain tries to get me to dwell on not starting a creative career sooner, it feels mute to do so cause I like to lean more into the notion that everything before today is what got me to where I’m currently at, which I’m extremely grateful for. In essence, would it be cool to have started a creative career at a younger age? of course, but if I didn’t live the life I did leading up to where I’m at now, everything would be totally different. my art, my outlook, my community, all different. so i try look forward instead on things i have no control over.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
hello friends, my name is jordy gnarpony & i got into the industry I currently am in by taking a long scenic, somewhat bumpy road to get here lol. to keep things short, I have lived many lives thus far & am now in the process of learning to tattoo where I focus primarily on colorful & trippy designs. I am also well-versed in various mediums of creative output & throughout the years have provided clients with sculptures, installations, illustrations, photography & more. if you have an idea, i’d love to hear it & see how we can collaborate on bringing it into this life. i think what sets me apart from others is my genuine & calm nature. i really do just want the best for all beings & to share art. i’m most proud of still being alive & am so thankful for the health & privileges i am afforded in this life. i look forward to sharing smiles & meeting all the future clients to be, find me on ig & say hello:)!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
hands down to share expression with others. i believe that is what life is all about, sharing vulnerabilities with each other. its such an epic feeling when people love something you made. making art can be epically rewarding & fulfilling as well. i love so much to just get lost in the flow state of creating where i’m merely a spectator in the motions of bringing an idea from imaginative thought into this physical reality.
Have you ever had to pivot?
so many times lol. probably the biggest one of all was when i got out of the navy & began to pursue a creative career. that was a major but absolutely necessary pivot for sure as i could not serve in the military any longer. it was def not for me. so yeah on that note, dont ever be afraid to pivot, life is hella short & we aren’t meant to work our whole lives doing something we hate. if you’re not scared, its not worth it…take the risk, you got this
