We were lucky to catch up with Jordanna Eyre recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jordanna, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
It’s incredibly rare to see an educational system that nourishes the soul of the student – and this has to change! The thing about “learning” is that learning is not absorbed, – and it’s certainly not utilized to create something new – if what we’ve “learned” isn’t connected to the unique wisdom that inspires our soul to create.
I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of a variety of educational systems. In my own childhood, I was exposed to public and private schools and systems set up to make children feel more separate from themselves and others upon graduation.
During graduate school, I saw into the inner workings of academia and its expectations of homogeny.
Early on in my grad school experience, my professors described me as “having charisma” and “going places.” Once they discovered that I had strong ethics and was devoted to creating a more inclusive world, their perspective and treatment of me changed drastically.
Suddenly I began getting lower grades than my classmates who fit well inside of the professor’s boxes by stealing from each other (and me) and plagiarizing their work so as to maintain a neat fit inside of the box of academic expectation.
After a career as a social worker, I went on to explore the systems of education as a bilingual teacher. While in school for my teaching credential, I took on a number of long-term substitute teaching positions, giving me the opportunity to see inside just about every type of school.
Once credentialed, I went on to spend two years at a charter school for at-risk students. And throughout the experience, I saw two primary things.
One, we need an educational system that supports the whole being of the student. Every student holds unique needs and unique ways of learning. However, when we put the whole being together, all students are able to access parts of themselves that thrive.
This means we need far less focus on the ‘mind’ and far more focus on the body and soul, along with varied perspectives on the mind and its infinite capacity.
And two, we need an educational system that allows the deep and authentic “inner knowing” of the student to lead.
By now most of us know that it is the person who recognizes they don’t know everything who leads the way.
Our educational system needs more teachers who lead from this perspective; who allow their students to lead from what’s inside of them, rather than being expected to regurgitate someone else’s knowledge.
For the past 8 years, I’ve owned and operated an online school for business leaders – and have seen what’s possible when you allow someone to learn alongside their own inner wisdom, as a whole being.
As a teacher of metaphysics for business, I’ve seen beginner students reach into themselves to find unparalleled wisdom.
And I’ve seen students discover entirely new facets of themselves and what they’re capable of creating in the world once they access the wisdom and awareness that’s beneath the “mind” we’re taught to access in academia.
We need an educational system that nurtures the varied perspectives of its students and helps each student broaden their perspective.
We need more big questions and fewer perceived answers.
And we need more nourishment of the parts of ourselves that learn in the intersection between what our souls can teach us from within, and what we can teach each other when we come together in collaboration and intention to create something new.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
There are many services and programs out there to support entrepreneurs and business leaders with personal growth. However most provide temporary relief, or a sense of inner wisdom that ultimately becomes evasive. My company, Modern Day Sorcerer was made for established entrepreneurs and business leaders who are ready for a much deeper soul exploration.
We provide our clients with a framework that helps them go deep into the infinite landscape our their soul and bring the unique wisdom they find there out into practical implementation in business and life… every single day – even when they’re busy and their plate is full.
One of the biggest barriers to natural influence and authentic power in leadership is what we call the “Invisible Ego Conundrum”.™️ A.K.A the state of not knowing when your ego is in the way of being the leader you wish to be.
Through unlocking the energy in the body, we teach leaders how to dissolve layers of ego *before* they inhibit the well-being of their business, team, or family.
We do this through activating alchemy – their ability to transform the matter of their inner & outer world by dissolving core wounds.
From there, we teach our clients how to use the framework we offer as a foundation to bring metaphysics into their business. In doing so, they become consistently connected to a well of unique wisdom even when they’re busy and their plate is full, and use it to be a bigger contribution. We then activate the laws of expansion in business to become supported by exponential structure and flow.
All of the services we provide help our clients unify impact and fulfillment, so that they can have both at the same time.
As the founder of Modern Day Sorcerer, and our online school for leaders, Sorcerer School, I’m most proud of the unique wisdom I’ve seen ignite in my clients to be a bigger contribution. We’re living in a world that needs systemic change, societal change, and environmental change. We must do this together.
When I witness my clients move beyond intellectualzing spirituality, and into a realm of fully embodying their wisdom – and bringing it into their roles as entrepreneurs or business leaders, I see that our world is on its way to the change we all wish to see.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
At Modern Day Sorcerer we do not only preach the idea of connecting to a well of unique wisdom to our clients… it is also a big part of how our team operates.
I’ve found that growing a team is about helping humans to grow in their innate desires, inner power and contribution to the world. As such, it’s important to us that each of our team members is in a position where they feel they are growing in connection to the unique wisdom they hold, and what they’re capable of doing with it.
When people feel safe to express what’s unique about them, and to explore doing what fills them up, they organically become more committed to the vision and the process of what they’re building. It’s important that each team member feels understood, safe to express themselves, and safe to “screw up”.
Life, and therefore business, is full of ebbs and flows. These ebbs and flows exist not only inside of scaling a business – but also inside of ourselves.
Giving each team member permission to trust themselves in their individual ebbs and flows, as well as permission to open up to the ebbs and flows of their unique role in the business is pertinent to cultivating a team that feels empowered and committed.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
I describe the process of becoming a co-founder with my partner, Christopher, as sort of a “hazing”. We met through a series of synchronicities that led us to moving in together (as romantic partners) – far away from everyone and everything. Little did we know when we settled into our new home on 10 acres of majestic land… that our lives would subsequently turn upside down.
When I first built Modern Day Sorcerer, I built it from a very “feminine” space. Soon to be supported by a team of six, everything and everyone inside of the company operated from a deep space of flow, and commitment to the “source within”. What we were lacking, however, was systems.
I knew I had a gift with systems, but I had resisted opening to this gift for quite some time. And then along came Christopher. Suddenly, my business began to drop to bare bones survival mode, seemingly out of nowhere.
I knew in my bones it was happening because my business required systems to grow… but “how” this was supposed to happen when I was on the brink of needing to let go of everyone on my team at the time eluded me.
Initially Christopher was there as I began to pick the pieces back up. It wasn’t long until I realized that he held the very wisdom my company had been lacking.
It wasn’t an easy process to open to allowing him to become just as much a visionary inside of my company as I was. But it quickly became clear to me that this vision I’d held for so long had also been guiding him… far before he knew exactly what it was.
Growing a business with your romantic partner is no easy task. It’s quite possibly the hardest thing I’ve ever done. But allowing myself to open to the wisdom of someone so different from me, yet such a perfect match for my company has been the most exciting adventures, as well.
